Alright, I have to wait a week for my New Axis to arrive. In order to keep busy I'm going to buy everything I need to keep her in tip top shape. With your help, please add anything I may have forgotten, mind you I have the basic tool for set-ups so I'm looking for cleaning, conditioning and maintaining it functionality at it's peak.

1- Polish Cloth
2- Guitar Polish
3- Wonder Wipes = Fretboard Conditioner, Instrument Polish, String Cleaner
4- I plan on changing replacing the tuners to schaller locking if they are a direct fit, and then replace the pearl pegs - I prefer locking tuners.
5- A nice leather strap, I may have to wait for the EBMM's to come out, I haven't seen a picture yet but they sound sweet.

I would also appreciate an opinion on how to clean and protect the maple neck ( back ) and also the Rosewood fretboard.

Which would be the best and longest lasting strings that are easy on the frets while keeping a darkish tone, I know it's subjective.

Let me know if I have missed something. I know I'm rambling, but I'm just stoked - being my 1st ball I am being a little OCD on this. I promise to use the search function from now on as much as possible.

Thanks and feel free to tell me to get lost if I'm beating a dead horse here;)

Is this a Standard Axis or a Super Sport we are talking about? The Standard Axis has a locking nut and adding locking tuners would really be a waste of time and money... the Super Sport already has very good locking tuners... Personally, I would not rush to change anything on my guitar until I knew it wasn't fitting my needs.

It's a regular Axis, I have a set of locking in the tool box and figured since all my other guitars have them I would switch.

I want to mention that this is my 1st Floyd so I'm a bit worried. and your right I should get a feel for it before I change anything.

Thanks

if you haven't had a floyd before you will love the Axis! I have 2 and love them... I would still say don't change the tuners. There really is no need for locking tuners as the factory ones are great and the locking nut really keeps it in tune no matter how much you crank on the trem. Remember who helped design and road test the guitar and how much stress he put on it... its that good! (once you get it your see what Im talking about) One word of advice with a Floyd, never take all the strings off at once... just flip them out 1 at a time.

Ok, I'll forget the locking tuners. For sure the strap locks are going on and no more mod's.

I'll search a bit more for how and with what to clean and condition the maple neck and rosewood fretboard.

I’ve owned 4 Axis’s. I just love them.

Remember... when you change strings with a Floyd. Change 1 at a time.

And a must have... do you have a digital camera to give us our porn fix?

FYI, I called EBMM Customer Service last year and the locking tuners lock holes do not line up the same from a standard Axis to an ASS or AS. If you do get a look at the back side of the headstocks of each you'll see. They might fit, but you would have to put in a new lock screw hole. The locknut is just fine you won't have any issues with slippage.

as far as cleaning the Axis goes, all you need are some wonder wipes for the neck. For the top, I just use an Ernie Ball polishing cloth to wipe it down. There really isn't more to it then that... maybe keep some extra picks around cause I always seem to lose mine.
