Juan is a cool guy and I bought this '72 loaded body (refin) from him a couple months ago.

It was awesome to comminicate with a player of his caliber and he gave me a great deal. The body is nice and light, original '72 P pickups, '73 Jazz pickup installed by Juan's tech with a two-way switch, original pickguard, Gotoh bridge.

He was even so kind as to ship it overnight airmail, so I received it the next day.

It was originally a fretless and he had the neck poly-coated just like his main bass, but he wasn't quite satisfied with it so he sold the neck on eBay and I talked him into selling the rest of the bass to me after I saw the body up for sale.

They don't come much cooler than Juan, in my book.

I doubt many if any of us have even played a Kingston bass let alone a fretless but I'm sure there's a few on TB. I think you're right, this isn't the best place to ask this question. :D  :D  Andrew

I have a friend who works for Mike Tobias. Mostly he plays USA MTD bolt-on 4-string, but on occasion he is "required" to trot out the Kingston 5-string. Frankly, it's a harsh empty tone, and when I tell him that, his response is a diplomatic duck and dodge. IOW, he can't outright agree because he works for Tobias, but he clearly doesn't disagree in the least.

OTOH, sometimes what just doesn't cut it with frets turns out to be way cool as FL. I admit I've never heard a Kingston FL, and I also admit I don't like any MM single PU basses with frets, yet FL they own me. And that has also proven true with a non-MM bass of similar design [kept the FL, traded the fretted for an amp].

Ive heard soundclips of the fretless kingston, of a Tber Wrong Robot, and it sounded good, which is why i became interested in the bass in the first place.
