I've always wanted a stingray. I'm starting school in a few months, so I wont have money for a while. Guitar center will trade me straight up for one of the single hb ray's without the switch. I'd love a dual model, but cant afford the extra money for one, and I really need a new bass. So should I go for the single hb? I wont miss the drumset that much!

Most definitely, go for it. When you raise the fund later on, then you can get a second SR, an HH.

I think that around here the logic is that two is better than one, three is better than four, and so on. . .

Is there anything special about that drumset that they're offering a straight trade? (hint; it's not like GC to do straight trades, unless what you have is very expensive, hmmm)

Are you giving up the drums for bass? Or is it some spare kit you have laying around.

Yeah, they're definitely looking at the resale potential of that kit.

You will *always* do better financially if you sell your existing gear yourself vs. trading in.

However, money isn't the only thing. There's the hassle of selling, packing, shipping, etc. etc. All of that has value. And depending on the item, selling quickly and easily can be a problem.

In other words, is it worth it to take a painless $50 trade today, or do you want to spend two months and incur $30 of fees, deal with finding packing material, packing all your gear so it won't get damaged in transit and making a trip to the shipping company to make a $100 private sale? The latter will leave you in better shape dollar wise, but you'll have wasted two months and had to deal with the hassle.

Sometimes it IS worth it to just trade, simply because it's not worth it to sell privately...the extra money isn't enough to compensate. Do your homework and figure out what your kit is REALLY worth on the open market, exactly how easily it will sell, what it will REALLY cost you in terms of time and effort to sell it privately, and make your decision on that basis. Real facts, not emotion. Short of that amount of effort, you're just giving money away.

I'm not saying that retailers will try to rip you off, but they WILL try to maximize their profit. Taking your kit in trade is a cost for them...they need to unload it at some point, and they need to make enough profit on that to pay the rent. The simple economics of the situation dictate that they CANNOT give you what a private individual will.

Yes I am giving up drums for bass. I love bass more. It's a ludwig classic maple 6pc. The bass drum is silver sparkle, the rack toms red sparkle, and floor toms blue sparkle. A nice kit, but I dont play it.

If you don't play it and can get a 'Ray for nothing out of pocket, you'd almost be silly not to jump at it. Of course, this may not be the place for objective opinions :D A single H is more than enough bass for most. However, if you feel strongly enough about it, you are better to save for an HH 'Ray. You'll be happier in the long run. If you are not dead-set on an HH, I say grab the single H and enjoy!

see if u can pull of "ok dude, ill give u the drums and $100 for the HH?". if they bite, then you score, if not - the single H is one badass bass as well so you're still all good.

tarding in something u dont use at all is never a bad idea

Second that... But how much are you gassing for a dual-pickup? It would be much easier to save up a couple hundred now and trade in the drums and add the money for an HS than get a single H and always feel like you really wanted the HS, but cause money's tight for whatever reason, it might take much longer to save up for a second bass. Just a humble thought.

Good idea here!

Otherwise, you will still be really happy with the H - they are all fantastic basses.

ya i figure coming up with $100-$200 now is gonna be easier than coming up for the full price of an HH later (to have 2 MMs) or having to sell the H and come up with a few hundered bucks for the difference.

you really can't go wrong with any MM bass they are all fantastic instruments.
personally i love my H ray & can get just about any sound i want out of it.over the years i have owned basses with all kind of pickup config's & my ray sounds better than any of 'em. + if there is something extra to mess with on a bass i will mess instead of just playing it.i like 'em simple-just like me
