Hi all. Ive lurked this site for years. You guys are awesome. Though I am curious..... I was offered $800 for my purple Music Man Axis Sport. And was wondering if I should take the $$ to upgrade. I bought this guitar in 1998, and it is in great condition, aside for the 2 dings on the body.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

Bill

Seems like a fair price for that model. What were you thinking of upgrading too?

Hi Bill.

The only real question is will you feel okay about letting it go for that price? If so, sell it and save up for the Y2D. Otherwise, keep it if you think you'll have any regrets.

If it were me, I'd probably take that offer for the Sport.. but it's completely a personal decision.

The SMY2D is a great guitar. If you sell the Axis to buy one of these, I am sure that playing it will diminish your nostalgia.

Thanks again for the responses. I really appreciate it. Im close on $$ to get the Steve Morse SM-Y2D, and selling this would put me in range to buy one, if i get the $800. Though one never knows. Either way here are some crappy pics.

yes the film on the back of the guitar is the original protective plastic I haven't removed since I bought it.

Thanks again all.

I considered selling my morse to fund my Luke but in the end couldn't do it.
Save up and keep the Axis you might regret selling that one.

Looks real nice.

Up to you really. IF you can keep it and get the Y2D...then do that. IF you have to sell to get the Y2D, do that. The Morse is a great guitar as is the Axis. It can be a tough decision....but...you are staying within the family..so...that is the best part!

I'd probably keep that Sport and save for another EBMM guit. Another factor you've vaguely touched on is the current ecomomy. It's tough selling out there right now, which also means it's a bit of a buyers market as well. Try a search for a used SM Y2D. Search ebay for a few weeks. The holidays are coming and many sellers are just waiting for the timing to try to generate sales. Your Sport is pretty nice. Great all around pickup configuration. But then, so is the Y2D.

Yeah...tough decision. I would keep that guitar and just save up the extra money to get the Y2D. It might take longer, but then, you'd have two great EBMMs. If I'm not mistaken, that particular configuration of Axis Sport might be rare.

^^^I agree - that HSS configuration is pretty rare on an Axis Sport. I would keep this one and save up for the Y2D. They will be two different-sounding and playing guitars.

Trust me on this; I've just ordered my 3rd Silhouette Special (same configuration, different colors) because I let the first 2 go to fund "greener pasture" guitars:rolleyes:.

Just put it away in the closet when you get the new one; in a few months when the honeymoon is over you'll be glad you have two different EBMMs

If you're attached the guitar in any way, don't sell. If you think you'll forget you ever owned it once it's gone, then sell it.

Nice old Sport, color is kinda rare, but it is your guitar and the price is fair, if you really want something different then sell otherwise keep it and save up.

Oh and wecome aboard:)

a HSS sport is kinda rare. I would keep it for sure. and the Y2D would be a nice sound complement to this guitar
