Should EBMM build 4/5/6 string 24 fret Big Als?

And which would you prefer?

Having played 6's pretty much exclusively since 1995, and having played 24 fret basses pretty much exclusively for five or so years before that, I wish they would update ALL their models to what is becoming the new standard. I personally am a little confused why they would be so radical in their body and electronic design concepts, but so conservative in this respect.

This is pretty much the ONLY reason I haven't bought an EBMM product up to now. Glad they brought out the Bongo 6, as I love the company, their radical designs (except for this), their focus on superb quality, and their social ethics for not shipping all their jobs overseas to Asian slave children and bad robots.

Great basses, and BTW, I bought my first EB volume pedal when THEY first came out in about 1979 or so. It is STILL going strong.

Thanks,
Cameron

Who is this "they" to which you refer? I say we say let "them" do what "they" do best that we might continue benefiting...

I totally agree with mynan. If they wanted to put 2 strings on a big al it would be cool.

For me it's a cool bass, just as it is. I'm not against any configuration...but for me..the 1.2 seconds per decade I actually play up that high near fret 21, 22, 23, etc...it's usually in my studio, by myself, you know, alone. Now, I do hang out around the 12th fret, quite a bit, so I'm all for a bit of fun up the neck, but I love the Al da way it is..and kinda glad it isn't 24. And I sure as hell have never been classified as a conservative bassist, and hey, I even had a 6 string in the 90s...didn't have to go past the 5th fret on that one.

24 frets are 'new standard'?...Hmmm, I don't know. People have been talking about the death of the 4 string since, well, 1990, when EVERYBODY started making 6 string basses, you could actually afford. 5 strings became the 'new standard' too, and, yet...here we are and the 4 is still around.

i really like a Big Al 6... that would be cool, the 24 frets instead of 21 is really no big difference in my opinion.

actually i really like a sterling 6, stingray 6 and a 25th 6

When you write a poll like this, shouldn't you observe a minimum code of respect towards the people who design these basses and provide us with this forum, I think writing "The Big Al is butt ugly" as an option to be quite offensive. It might not be to everyone's taste, but harsh criticism like that is counter productive.

You should either edit the poll or delete the silly post altogether.

Although I actually do enjoy carrots, none of your options in your poll adequately reflect my opinions. Plus, there's no need for the "ugly" comment because it's irrelevant to your question.

I will say, however, I generally do not play much higher than the 14th fret of any of my basses.

Carrots as a poll option is the sign of a Talkbass refugee.

BP has already hinted at a 5 string Big Al.

I would think the chances of a 24 fret option on any Big Al is slim to none as that would require a body redesign from the ground up, which was already done when it was ported from the guitar model.

And, the chances of there being a six string are fairly low, as well.

+1

24 frets on a Big Al would probably mean eliminating a pickup or going to 35" scale...not going to happen.

Well, I've been sitting in the moderator office for a while now....and I believe I have some insight into how these things work. The Big Al bass is now about, oh, six hours into production and a poll to solicit opinions on how it should now be changed is probably.....how to put this - premature.

So let's not make a huge deal out of it.

It is actually a sign of entitlement.

THe bass doesnt balance or work as a 24 fret six string

Polls like this make me want to take a break from this forum.

People who respond in german and have to post that it is butt ugly should attach a picture of their family so I can post a poll too.

Finally If I make these thousands (thats what it would work out too...are any of you going to buy them or is this a virtual lego land?
