I prefer to use the tried and trusted little dynamo's Fender built. Solid and highpowered, they are 6 single-ended Class A watts of pure tone heaven. I use one of three Champs. One is a 64 that I totally rebuilt, inluding recovering the cabinet and new grill cloth. One is a 71 that is bone stock and is my go to power house. And one is a 75 bone stock vibrato monster.

Love em to death.....

Sometimes I use my Princeton Reverb.... when I need brute strength.....

I am using the Line 6 Duoverb:

I always use it on its side for some reason! Takes up less space on stage and means you can hear it better. I love these amps so much, I now have three of them!

I've heard a lot of very positive feedbacks from line 6 amps...I'll have to try one.

How is the 20/20 driving 2 4x12's?

I'm just worried about volume at rehearsal and live really. :)

I've never used more than one 4x12 with it, but it was plenty loud for what I needed. But to be honest, I'm not sure it would be loud enough for what you do. I have one teacher with a 20/20 who said his would hit a wall and not get any louder, even though there was plenty of room left to turn the knobs. I don't ever push mine that hard since it's usually just got a mic on it. :)

I remember seeing your photos - you had one signed by Jim Marshall didn't you?

You have to "turn up the wick" on those Marshalls - don't sit in the "flame" of the speaker 'cos it will take your head off!!! :D

Yeah, that's what I was worried about.

I figured if Iwent that route it would have to be effective with a 2x12 in stereo, one side of the amp pushing each.

As we are a loud screaming metal band all playing 5/7-strings, it probably wouldn't work. :)

Maybe in the future when I'm old(er) and busted. :D

this is my other amp, a 1997 limited edition Marshall JTM-45 Bluesbreaker combo, great great amp. Cleans are superb.

Nice one, Rob. Have you gigged with the Bluesbreaker? How does it compare with your Fender?

yes it was my main gigging amp from 97 to 2005, i got the fender in may last year. Absolutely LOVE the Marshall sound, it of course sounds nothing like a JCM900 or any other marshall ive heard, much like a Fender amp really, there's no gain channel or anything like that, its just clean, you have to turn it up LOUD to get gain, but boy is it nice gain!! A real classy sound, very beautiful. I have the ideal gig to use it for with, where i get to turn up as loud as i want and not me mic'ed up, so i get to hear the full sound of the amp behind me. But alas its not quite loud enough for the gig, and the band complained they couldnt hear me clearly enough, so i got the Fender, which i set at about 4 and the band yells at me to turn it down!

That's too bad that it's not loud enough for a full on band. I imagine you've considered mic-ing it? I didn't know these don't have a master volume control.

30 class A watts (EL84 tubes) should be enough to cut through the mix in all but metal, I'd think. Jfwiw, there are considerably louder, more efficient speakers available than the stock ones. The loudest one I've found is the Eminence Wizard, which has a really big and tight bottom end, clear highs, tons of sustain, clean or overdriven. I LOVE mine. Mostly in the country, bluesy, classic rock range. It's built to sound like the Celestion G12H Heritage, but they're twice the wattage rating, less than half the price, and to my ears, sound a whole lot better.

its probably just loud enough, but with nowhere to go if i need it. micing it up is the obvious option, but the house monitors are crap, the whole PA is crap, so i'd rather not have some crappy speaker at my feet blasting away and sounding bad!

Changing speakers i did think of, but couldnt get any real good advice on what to get, i will look into the eminence wizards, thanks a lot for that!
