Really nice ax, Glenn. And a timely post in my case.

I've still got my '69 LP Deluxe. It's been modded but it's fantastic. AND: it's heavy. Gets heavier the older I get, strangely enough.

I spent a lot of time searching for the right strap for it and finally found one from this guy, Nick, in Louisville. So I'm in good shape, now (finally). But I almost gave up on it and my alternative was (and still possibly is) what you've just posted. Either hot rails or a nice set of humbuckers. Three way switch.

I love Silos and Silo Specials. The weight, contours, and necks/fingerboards. And they have the same angle as my Paul when on a strap.

How's this work for you? How'd you set up the pickup plate? Was it standard or did you buy a third party?

Hahahahaha good luck man hope you snag it!!

Snag it I just did, Glenn!

My Tele sounds have been supplied by my G&L ASAT Classic the past 8 years. I love the sound of that guitar and the craftsmanship is excellent...but the fact is that I just don't bond well with T Style axes.

And: a good friend of mine wants to buy it. I'm bringing it over to his place now for another test run (he played it about a month ago).

Regardless: I just bought that beautiful guitar. Thanks for the post, Glenn. Ya done good. I'll report back when the ship comes in.

Hi Guys, long time since I've been on here. A long long time!
This thread perfect as I was looking at picking up a silo in the near future. Just have a few questions as they are not easy to find in Ireland to try out. Regarding the neck , would the neck be similar to that of an axis?I had an axis going back a few years ago ended up selling it (stupidly) loved the neck on the axis. Also sound wise would you reckon it would be possible to get nice S type tone's srv and the likes from one of these?

As a little side question also here in Ireland for whatever reason silo's don't seem to hold their value, of all the musicman models they seem to be very reasonably priced to pick up second hand . Just wondering why this is the case..if anyone knows? There just isn't any for sale ATM on site I use usually!!I'm waiting to pounce

The Silo neck feels bigger than the Axis neck, so it's not a major departure. The Axis neck is more worn-in feeling, and thinner on one side (asymmetrical). I'd say the Silo Special is probably a wee bit closer.

As for prices, I'd say they hold their value well, relative to their initial sale price. The older models go for less used, but that reflects what they initially sold for. At least in my experience.

adam-antiom:

I think Silos are on the less expensive side because they're not getting the same press as the JP and Albert Lee models. Johnny Hiland is into them (and the SSS Axis Sports), but great as he is, he's not as well known.

Some players choose the Silo over a Strat because they find them more comfortable to play on. They want (and do get) that Strat sound, but with the feel of the Silo.

I just sold a really nice G&L ASAT Classic after buying a Silo that had been mounted with a Tele style pickguard. Danny Gatton pickups. Sounds like a Tele (even without that big ol' metal plate under the bridge pickup), but is so much easier for me to play on. I've never really been comfortable with T style guitars.
