From seeing some pics, I wonder: How are the side dots done on the Pre-EB fretless necks? Black or white?

I'm certain they're black dots.
The rosewood laminate cap was very-very thin. The dots are still placed on the maple part of the neck.

I had a fretless '77 Stingray with a maple neck and board (long story) and the markers were black dots embedded in the maple fretboard.

I have a '78 fretless neck I recently purchased and while I suspect it's been modified, the dot markers are white, and embedded in the rosewood fretboard.

Uh, I mean the markers are embedded on top of the fretboard, not on the face of the fretboard. That's why I think the '78 has been modified-- the dots are in the rosewood, not the maple.
