Signature guitars

I bought my Luke last December. At the time I had no particular interest in Steve Lukather or Toto. I was recommended the guitar by my local guitar shop from a guy who knew me pretty well and knew my guitar history (EC Signature guitars).

Sadly they didn't have any EBMM models in stock at the time. So, I drove 200 miles to try a Luke and a Silo. I fell in love with the Luke immediately and I'm now saving for a BFR in tobacco sunburst.

Since purchasing the Luke I've spent some time on YouTube getting to know his music, bought Ever Changing Times and became a fan.

So the guitar sold itself. I can't remember a time when I've had so much enjoyment from a guitar - it's just that good! Thanks EBMM.

As for the artist, I just wish I'd got to know more about your playing years ago.

Personally I don't see the difference between buying a signature guitar based on the player and buying, let's say, a Stratocaster because Hendrix played one (assuming we're talking about a time when a signature model didn't exist). I will admit that I did check out the JP signature because of his name. After playing it I will say that it is everything I would have liked in a guitar. Essentially, I could have done or had a custom Suhr guitar made with the same specs as the EBMM JP but decided to go with the Ball instead.

My point is that the signature did introduce me to the guitar. Ultimately it needed to meet my needs and it did. The first guitar I ever bought was a Les Paul. Why? Alex Lifeson played one. I wanted one because Lifeson had one. To me, it is the same thing.

I play Silo Specials cuz it's the first MM to fall into my hands, and it was love and motivation at first bite. It wouldn't have been a deal breaker if it was someone's sig guitar, though I'd prefer it wasn't. Yes, I'm glad it doesn't have someone else's name on the headstock, and yes, it makes it feel more personalized and more "mine". There's nothing snobbish or elitist about that, it's just what I prefer. Snobbish and elitist is judging someone else for their own reasons for choosing what makes them happy to own and play, signature or no signature. Snobbish and elitist is when you think your opinion should be everyone else's opinion.

I played the JP and fell in love with the guitar. I did this before I even knew who had their signature on the headstock..... before I really got into JP.... the guitar inspired me to listen to the artist.... now that's a powerful instrument!

If he left, I'd still love the guitar and play it just the same wthout question!

Same thing for me and the Axis. I had no idea it was based on an EVH design. I do have a Yamaha Ty Tabor model that was given to me as a gift because I am a huge fan of his (My wife rocks pretty hard). I ordered the Axis because I bonded with it immediately.
