I'd like to be the first to order a Phatduckk Sterling. One that programs my computers, scans all craigslist cities for cars and guitars, and turns into a lefty when I flip it over.

Actually, I'll take two.

Although I liked the OP's ideas for color options on the Sigs he suggests, lets keep it non sig. Why not just run special finishes on all the models for a limited amount of time.

Wait, that was the Dargie.

Well, that worked out well, so just hope that they will do something like that again in the future................ with that awesome flat, glossy, sparkle-less silver on the proto Bongo 6!

I've noticed that we all have a propensity to want what isn't available to us. EBMM gives sooooo many choices (all the factory combos, BFRs, LTDs, and the occasional CLB one off) that if you can't find your own signature there are serious issues. I know it is cool to have what player X is using but make your own mojo... it is usually better that way :D

I must admit, I had the same thought for quite a while regarding colors.

No signature basses. Fine. And I totally understand were BP is coming from when he says this.

However, signature colors would be just fine in my book.

The bass (or guitar) and all that goes into making it would be identical. No parts to change or wood to shape. However, for a small upcharge ($100?) you could order your instrument in a limited selection of colors. Tony Levin Peach. John Myung Silver. Louis Johnson White. Moose308 Trans-Green burst. Luke Lavender. Albert Lee Red. Etc.

Since it is just paint, there is no particular reason why each color can't be used on any instrument. So if someone wanted an Axis in Tony Levin Peach, well, go for it.

Of course, the production line might not like doing very small (even indiviual) runs of special colors. Manufacturing would want to do large batches of single colors. Apart from stocking the paint ($$$ in inventory), manufacturing would want to save up all the orders for Albert Lee Red and shoot them all at the same time. This would add to the backlogs, and storage problems for unfinished goods.

But hey, it's just paint.

Does putting an artist's name in front of a colour of paint make the instrument really any different? No, it doesn't. That just becomes nothing more than a marketing ploy like say F@nd@r or G!bs!n. And that's not something EBMM is known for.

Sure there are sig guitar lines, but they each guitar are its own unique instrument and these artists have each had significant influence over the shape, look and playability.

Adding an artist's name in front of the "Bongo" or the "Stingray" make little sense I'm sure from EBMM's perspective. As BP, a sig line has to be completely unique and different to what they are already doing.

sweet. when i get famous, go multi-platinum and sell out rediculously big venues ill give BP a call :)

Keep in mind, oh pato gordo, that the Silhouette is not the Keef Richards Silhouette.

Anyone remember Tony Levin talking about signature models at the Open House?

Anyone read for comprehension what BP has said about a zillion times about signature basses?

I look at it this way, guys. If there were going to be signature models, there would be Flea Stingrays and Tony Levin Stingray 5s. In the bass world, it gets no bigger than Flea or Tony, really.

But there are no Flea or Tony Levin models (except the OLP, which is a different thing altogether).

And that should tell you everything you need to know!

Now the Jack Williams Signature Bongo - that was something to behold.

for what its worth, i was being sarcastic le hoet de vache ... i mean, given the odds of me getting famous are about .000000000000023%

if ever the day came id still play a Sterling - they're awesome. i'll be playing sterlings forever.

I'd still order a Phat Sterling. Has kind of a nice ring to it. Much better than a Bovine Bongo (sorry Jack). Unless, of course, the bongo has horns.

Most of us get that, boss - that the Dargies were a special thing, not likely to be repeated, and that we didn't exactly buy your next vacation home. But it's an internet forum, so we HAVE to talk about it, but the truth is - someone correct me if I'm wrong - that most of us really do get it.

What part of hooks on the wall arent you cats getting? ITs about retail and getting them on the shelf.

Again, you guys correct me if I'm wrong, but they get it. BUT WE CAN'T SHUT UP!

What kind of forum would it be if we did? And admit it - you'd be sad if I ever were to shut up. (Relieved, too, I would imagine.) But never doubt that we, as a group, appreciate the stuff you've tossed to us. But life and the internet being what it is, we're always going to have threads like this.

Just my 2 cents worth. I'm not all that impressed by "signature" instruments.

I would take a Sterling or Bongo off the shelf over any signature instrument out there.

Besides, all I have to do is stop into my local music shop and order the EBMM bass I want!

To me, that beats any signature series!

And BP, I certainly appreciate that you guys ate it on the Dargies. :D

I thank you all for that!
