Silent circuit issue....& solid ash vs. maple top

I am looking to buy an humbucker/single/single/ axis sport. I am wondering what happens if you do not use the silent circuit? Can you just ignore it and not put in a battery? If not, can you have the battery in, but shut of the silence feature? If you need the battery, how often do you have to change it? Also, does anyone have any input on the sound difference and overall character difference between the solid ash axis sport, and the maple topped axis, and axis super sport. Thank you, Gary

In some cases it can have an impact and make the siggy weaker. Just buck up and pay for the battery! I mean you can get 49volts at radio shack for about $3.00. Too bad the 9v's aren't in the very limited, Burnt Apple Sparkle.

thanks OC, how long does the battery last? Will it run out of juice even when its not plugged into the amp, that may sound stupid, but i'm gonna go ahead and ask for stupids sake....and, also, as I already asked, does it have settings, that can let you cancel out the silent feature..while still having the battery in? thanks again gary

Not that I know of. Basically the circuit kills 60 cycle hum. which is a good thing. True singles tend to buzzzzzzzzz.

Or....do the environmentally responsible and long-run economical thing and pick up a couple of rechargeable 9v batteries and a charger unit.

Yes, they are about 3-4 times more expensive than regular ones - but the cool thing here is that that today's rechargeables last about as long as a regular battery, charge up fully in just a couple/few hours (some brands have a proprietary "quick charge" capability) and they have a life of about 1000 charges!

Do the math, and you'll see that what you pay upfront pays for itself VERY quickly...and you can leave your guitar plugged in fulltime!

(Hey Jon - now's a good time for me to ask another one I've wondered about for a while...what's the expected, tested life for a battery in the Silent Circuit?)

Nope...No Sundays...4-10 hr days...3day weekends every week. It doesn't suck.
