SL pick ups
Well i have had a JB in my squire strat for 19 years and i sware by it. The only thing is yeah, check for spacing i hadn't but i wish i did.

how come you need to get trembucker spacing on silhouette specials? I'm don't know too much about pickups, really, I just always use what comes stock.

Well. on some guitars, depending on the bridge you have, the strings are a bit more spaced out, so you end up with strings that are not aligned with the pick up pole pieces. There are pick ups that do a great job like the seymour trem buck and rails type of pick ups, dimarzio X2N, EMG's and so on

the dimarzio PAF that comes with the silhouette special is a trem spaced pup, if you look at the pole pieces you will notice that they align under the strings, the JB is a nice pup in a set neck guitart but I wanted moe growl and power so I went with the distortion, its a hotter pup, and if you want less output thean you can lower it to the body some, if you wanna try it out go check out the schecter jerry horton signiture model, they come stock in them, and the JB comes stock in the brian moore iguitars fi yu can get your hands on one of them - lock

Billl Lawrence, developer of half the stuff Gibson invented pickup, switch, and potentameter wize. Consultant to fender. Jaco model bass uses his p'ups. So does Jeff Beck, Joe Perry, Dimebag Darrell.
This 465 is splitable, has adjustable pole peces on both halves, comes in two or three different 'henries' of output, and is noise free. Cost about 48 bucks, visit his websight.
The truth is that while Duncan JBs sound awsome, they are an agressive pickup and what you really want is not a p'up that 'melts to brown-sound' eaisily but one with clarity of string definition at any volume so you can git the dirt and gain from yer amp without string definition turing to mush.
Lawrence has done more for the electric guitar than anyone alive including Seth Lover IF he's still alive and only second to Les Paul hisself.
Distortion p'ups are for teenagers with ****ty amps. Git a decent amp, Push the tubes, and use p'ups that have clairity.
If you insist on a high-output, go with his xl-500s, still saving you money all the while.[Duncan recently stole this design from Bill]
P.S., the 465 has been compaired to the Duncan SH-1.
Talk to Bill or his wife toll free and they will discuss at length till they get the sound you want, a level of personal service you won't find anywhere else.

I WAS THINKING OF THE 500-XL BUT I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE TOO HI-ENDY (NEW WORD?). BUT I MUST ADD, THE TONE THAT NUNO GOT WITH EXTREME WAS REALLY BAD-ASS. I'VE ALSO GOTTEN SOME ADVICE TO TRY A DUNCAN CUSTOM SH5. LOTS OF CLARITY AND TONE IS WHAT THEY SAY.The xls' have more..girth, but still clear. Dimebags' pickup of choice till Duncan copied it amd made him an endorsement offer.
Lawrence makes a potentameter/tone filter[Q-filter] that replaces a standard tone pot and will make most any p'up sound like
most any othe p'up. I beleive it was introduced in the L-5 Gibson and a few other models at one time. Sorta like the rotary switch on certain 335s' like B.B. Kings'.
I still say it is a shame the Axis Dimario p'ups aren't available on other models, as well. They are NOT the same as tone-zones.
I have played the Petrucci and would say those p'ups sound like the 465s'.
If you want a bolt-neck alder or ash guitar to sound as 'Gibsony' as possible you would prolly want the 500s'.
Placement and value of cap on volume makes a great difference in tone also, as well as 500 vrs. 250 pots.[someone makes a rare 300 or 330 pot out there somewhere].
