Below is a picture of the humbucking pickup on my 2001 Silhouette (not special) The neck and the bridge pickup look identical.

Note that all the pole pieces are hex screw type.

By contrast, the HB pickups on my Silo Specials and Axis have smooth poles on one coil and slotted pole adjustments screws on the other poles.

I am curious, are these pickups stock, and what kind are they? I prefer the sound of the HB's with the smooth and slotted poles to these.

Thanks

That's a DiMarzio PAF PRO - that was a standard HB for the silo and silo special before the switch for the virtual paf. I actually prefer the paf pro to virtuals :)

Thanks DK - the thing that has me confused is that both my Silo Specials (with the smooth and slotted poles) are OLDER guitars - the both have recessed neck plates and date to the late 90's (I have the dates, just can't recall at the moment).

The Silo with these pickups (as shown above) is a 2002 model without the recessed neck plate

Well, I'm pretty sure waht You have in this islo is a PAF PRO, 'cause of its magnets and the fact that it was the standard silo HB at that time. The real question is what You have in Your silo specials :), cause they should've had PAF PRO in the bridge as well, as far as I know, and the PAF PRO only comes with the hex screw black alnico 5 magnets.

So, You could just open the pickguard and see the stickers/descriptions on the back side of the HBs in Your silo specials - that's the only way to be sure.

The current Silo Specs come with vitrual PAFs. The site still needs a little tweaking. The Silhouettes are PAF Pros. I think the older Silo Spec still came with PAFs or something. Not PAF Pros.

I suspect they're not Vintage PAFs anymore but the new Anniversary PAFs. What's on your picture is most probably a Pro.

Guys, just to clear that up a bit - af far as I know, of course.

Both silo and silo special were equipped with PAF PROs before the switch for the virtual PAF, which occured somewhere in 2004-2005, I believe (the earliest silos were sometimes equipped with Schaller PUs, but that's a different story). Until the end of 2007 or the early 2008, both the silo and silo special featured the virtual PAF (so, to add to my great sorrow about the ways of this world, there is no PAF PRO in the silos anymore, Lionel :). I've bought a new silo 2 years ago just to find out it didn't have the PAF PROs in it...).

Now, as the virtual PAFs are all discontinued and replaced by the 36-th anniversary PAF or the PAF classic, I'm not quite sure what is put into standard silos and silo specials - but it's deffinitely neither PAF PRos, nor virtual PAFs anymore.

Yep, didn't qualify my above stantement further. I meant to say the Silhouettes WERE PAF Pros in the past, but no longer.:D Thanks for clearing that up!:p
