I voted Silhouette but thats based on the 20th and Gold Roller, but out of the regular stock models it would still be a Silo, if you would have asked a year ago I would have said Silo Special funny how tastes change.

I went with the Silo because the neck HB gave me the flexibility to do:

Series/Single/Parallel switches on each humbucker.

I also added a switch to add the bridge PU to any of the five way positions.

Never had a 24 fretter before, so that wasn't a big deal to me either way.

Strat / Tele / Superstrat pickup combos in one guitar.

I love it.

Siilo special, because I like strat sounds and features but found that the SS is the "better" strat for me because of its playability, quality and the superb neck. I like the SSS configuration of my SS.

Silo Special for me, with 3 single coils. Never understood the need for neck humbuckers, they sound muddy and useless to me, most of the time. A neck single coil give so many great tones. Not enough clean players out there that can appreciate the single coils in the special, or the AL. Every player that picks up my guitars instantly lays on the distortion, its just silly.

I think it all comes down to that. Players of genres that require less distortion will prefer a single coil. For the occasional big distorted rock tone, they get an HSS. More dedicated distortion players, who are often shredders, will prefer humbuckers and the extra frets. Of course there are exceptions.

I like both the clean neck humbucker tone and the single coil tone, perhaps the single a tad more, but I can't do without a neck humbucker when playing with distortion.

Silhouette Special for the following Reasons:

1. Versatility
2. 22 fret neck position tone is slightly warmer(debatable)
3. The Neck seems to be just a hair thinner on the Special
4. Versatility
5. Did I mention that it's versatile?

I play in a Metal band(Tuned to Drop B ) and this thing is my work horse. It also has killer blues tones as well as Jazz tones, and the middle position is distinctly approaching the Tele category. Great Playing, Great Sounding, and just all around versatility and general awesomeness.

Rob, Your Love to 3 single coils intrigues me... Can you post some vid with sound of that bridge coil? I'd like to hear some cleans and some distortion (maybe crunchy overdrive and also some high gain :) ). I play in a rock band, and in my HSS I use a lot of hambucker, but I love the sound of my neck pickup, which I use also a lot (maybe not as much as hum, but still...). Maybe my DD2 silo spec should be SSS :D Convience me! :)

I dont use the bridge single coil on its own for anything than country stuff, I use the bridge/middle A LOT though. I tried using HSS and I did like the tone but I found I only used the humbucker for 2 or 3 songs and I missed my nice bridge/middle tone which didnt sound as good as having the single coil in the bridge. SO my advice would be if you use the humbucker a lot you probably wouldnt like the SSS, but hey I mostly take one of each type of guitar a gig, like so many pros I see around town taking a Strat and a Les Paul to cover all bases, you could take 2 silo specials like me- one SS and one HSS.

I voted Silo Special because if I could only have one guitar, that may it (although I love and gig with my Axis the most). However, I also have a Silo that is killer. I often wonder if there would be an easy way to add a setting to have both HB on together?

I like having dual hums, and I prefer having 24 frets if it's a 25.5'' scale length. So, the Silhouette takes it for me :D
