Silhouette pickup replacement - suggestions please

Hiya,

I've got a 16 year old silhouette guitar with 3 single coil pickups. I love the sound of it when playing it clean, but when trying to rock it up a bit, I just can't use it with anything other than very mild distortion due to the hum and buzzing.

So I was wondering about replacing the pickups with something that allows me to play the guitar through distortion, but retaining as much of the original clean tone of the guitar as possible.

I've heard about this musicman 'silent circuit' - is that something that I can have changed and done to my guitar?

Apologies for all the questions, but I'm really just after suggestions and any previous experience from people.

Thanks :)
