Hi folks,

what do I have to expect from the stock pickups in the triple single coil equipped Silhouette Special guitar ?

What "power" and tonal characteristics do the EBMM stock single coils have and what are your experiences ?
What types of music would they suit ?

What did you perhaps change and why ?

...just curious and asking because my current Silo Special did not have the stock PUs anymore when I got it...

Thanks for sharing your experiences !

I had SSS Sil Sp pups in a non-MM guitar, and to my ears they sounded the same as the single coils in my HSS Silos. They're fairly modern sounding, or perhaps somewhere between vintage and modern sounding, i.e. a little hotter and break up easier than true vintage single coil pups. They sound great clean and dirty, and my favorite: just on the edge of distortion. I'd planned to switch mine out to Fralin Vintage Hots, but decided to leave the stock ones in because they were far more versatile. I dig 'em.

I also had an s/s/s Silo Special (and will likely get one again sometime ;) ) and would also catagorize the pickups as "hot vintage". I found them to be slightly hotter than what F*n*d*r puts on their American Vintage series reissues, but still retained a similar tonal characteristic - very much a "hot but not too hot" 60s-era Strat vibe and not as midrangy as a Texas Special pickup from the F company.
