So recently I just felt like a change...was looking at pictures of all kinds of Silhouette Specials, and saw some guys playing them on youtube. I basically almost convinced myself that I should buy another one with a dark pickguard. Then it came to me, why dont I just swap the one I have now for a bit of change! My Silo Special originally came with a black guard, and I put on the white pearl which I think everyone likes and so do I. Of course I will keep it and eventually put it back on. So I did the change last night, and its almost as if I had a NGD all over again haha. Anyway, I just wanted to share with everyone, and of course got a few pics for fun.

I also wanted to say home much I love this guitar, and in general the Silhouette Special is such an amazing EBMM classic with so many options. I wish I could own at least 10 of them in all sorts of colors and combinations. I really hope to see a dedicated BFR version of one at some point in the future. It would be the coolest with the mahog tone block and a maple cap...that to me is the ultimate tone wood combo.

So here is to the Silo Special! Cheers!

Oh, and I've had so much fun and anger with this guitar as well...quite a bit of history with her over the past 3 years, when it came to swapping pickups, wiring and even last night changing the guard. All I did was change the pickguard...all the electronics were in tact perfectly. After I did the simple swap, I strung her up and proceeded to tune. I had NO SIGNAL! The mag pickups were not working, but the piezo system was fine. I had to open her up all over again and see what the hell was wrong. I could not find a single problem with any wires or ANYTHING. So I put her in the case all pissed off, even though I liked the black guard change. Anyway, after work today I was ready to redo all the electronics, because I had no idea what the problem was. Of course it ended up being the stupidest thing. One of the screws that holds the 5 way switch in place was touching one of the lugs on the 5 way switch, which basically was grounding the signal. Now I am happy and didnt have to do any major wiring. But of course as I proceeded to put the guard back on I snapped one of the wires from the piezo system to the blend volume knob...so I did have to fix that. So there is my story, and a thread celebrating this AWESOME guitar!!!

:cool::)

Which one you like better? hehe I got an Air Zone in the bridge, Fast Track 1 in the middle and Cruiser in the neck. It's a rock machine, but it's super versatile as well. Position 2 is the bridge and middle in parallel and position 4 is the neck and middle in parallel. Sounds unique and awesome at the same time! :)

Looks smart with the black pickguard. A BFR Silo would be Epic ! A friend of mine has a s/s/s Silo. I like the Silo and will be a future guitar for me. It's a keeper !

it's hard to say bro. I bet it depends on the mood I wake up in to see which I preffer. I am digging the black right now but the white kicks tail too. I want to change the pups in mine. I am going to start with the Andy Timmons model in the bridge ASAP and then either keep the single coils or make it a full out Andy Timmon's SS :D

The AT1 is most certainly a good way to go! The Air Zone has some similar qualities...definitely sounds nice fat and warm, but crunchy at the same time. The cruiser in the neck is such a nice tone...cant go wrong there.

Yep, lot's a love for the Silhouette Special over here. Even with my beautiful 20th and my AL LE07, it's still my #1. Haven't changed the pick guard yet though. :)

Hi guys, I've been reading for awhile but this is my first post. I have owned a Silhouette HSH for a couple of years now and just purchased an SS this past summer. I'm thinking of getting an SSS loaded pickgaurd for the SS so I will have the best of both worlds. Love the White pearl gaurd.

I like the Air Zone a lot. I've got one in the bridge position of a guitar I built a while ago, but it also sounds really sweet in the neck.
I've been thinking of getting a HSH Silo, and putting in a Breed - Cruiser - Air Zone combo, it would sound pretty good I think.

Japanese guys are lucky too...they got a limited number of Silo Specials with a floyd. I would love to have one with a floyd, just for the fun Satriani stuff. It would be really cool if there was a limited run of Silo Specials with more trans colors and roasted necks. I'm imagining a trans red, trans teal and pacific blue burst Silo Special...just dreaming through the keyboard :D. Perfectly happy with the one I got now.

Glenn, I would suggest a black pearl guard on the gold one and white pearl on the pink. I think it would set it off quite nicely. As a matter of fact, I might do a black pearl on my Silo Special...that might work the best since its dark and has the cool pearl effect going too.
