So, what's wrong with this picture? I mean besides the simple fact that it's clearly a Silhouette and not a Silhouette Special...
Auction for alledged Sil. Proto on the 'bay
Off the top of my head, the headstock logos are all wrong for a "prototype", since the first Silhouettes had a very different logo design... The tuning pegs look like Grovers, but I think the early Sil's used Schaller hardware all around... And those look like Dimarzio pickups (typical hex-head pole pieces in the bridge humbucker), not the Schallers that would be in an early Silhouette... This guy's entire "proof" is that he heard it from someone that it was a Prototype, and he claims it came with markings on the body ('cause, ya, you'd completely finish a guitar in a lovely cherryburst, and then take a marker to it to describe cuts and features to the ee's)... Oh, that and the lack of a serial number (probably just has a replacement neck plate, for whatever reason
)
I stand ready to be corrected by BP or Derek or anyone else in the know, but my bull$hit meter's red-lining right now...
