Hi all,

First post here. I've recently purchased a musicman sub1 guitar. I've routed the body and bought a new pickguard and am trying to get Silhouette Special wiring without the silent circuit.

I'm going nuts trying to figure out how to do this wiring.

I've found a few posts on these forums describing what needs to be done (How to wire up Silhouette Special without the Silent Circuit ? and Silhouette Special Wiring - Do You Know?) but I just cannot seem to get it right.

I'm wondering if anyone has a diagram of the wiring for a silhouette special with the Silent Circuit omitted.

I have a superswitch, two single coil pickups and a seymour duncan JB that I'm trying to use to achieve the stock Silhouette Special switching configuration.

Thanks in advance, I'm pulling my hair out!

If you don't have the Silent Circuit in there, it's pretty easy. The grounds from each pickup wire to ground, not to the SC. So you just have to worry about the coil switching- basically the bottom right portion of the diagram in the second you posted.

The only hitch is that you'll need to adjust for the difference in wiring colours that SD uses, which are different than Dimarzio.

Just wanted to reply that the information from this thread (How to wire up Silhouette Special without the Silent Circuit ?) did help me get it sorted out. I had the wiring mostly correct but hadn't run a ground from pole 3 as described by @DrKev in post number 4. I just missed that. Once that ground was connected, everything worked great.

My next question, is there a way to wire a push-pull switch in to remove the bridge HB coil from position 2? I'd like to be able to turn that on and off for those times when I want to use just the middle pickup on its own.

It's not terribly important, but it would be a cool option to have.

No matter how long we do this, there's always something we miss somewhere. Finding it is the sign you're getting good. Well done. :)

Move the black wire from the humbucker from position 2 of the 5-way switch to the push-pull switch, to one of the top or bottom lugs depending on if you want it up or down. From the middle lug of the push-pull closest to that wire, go to position position 2 of 5-way where that black wire would normally be.

Thanks @DrKev, appreciate the encouragement and the guidance!

One more question, if you don't mind. I'm seeing a variety of mini toggle switches available, on-off, on-on, on-off-on, was hoping you might be able to point me in the right direction as to what type of switch to buy. I'm assuming its one of the two position switches, but I'm not sure if I want a SPDT or a DPDT switch.

Thank you again!

What's the mini toggle for? What does your wiring diagram look like? Whatcha trying to achieve?

They way I've described it, you only need a SPDT, On-On, or On-Off, but there is no reason not to buy a DPDT, On-On and allow more freedom to do other stuff in the future.
