Hi All

I own a Musicman Silhouette and have done since new.

I have searched the internet to find anyone with a similar guitar but I'm having no luck.

The guitars serial number is 89022, I believe it is only one of a few that was manufactured with a wider neck than the standard Silhouette model. The guitar was originally purchased in England but I have since moved to Australia.

I would be grateful for any information you can tell me about this guitar.

Thanks for your time

Scott

I think JimiD has the oldest silo here on the board. Or perhaps Derek or jonguitarz could help you out. I have never heard of such.

I was discussing Scotty's guitar with him via email, and it turns out he's got quite an interesting piece... I think we'll have to wait for one of the mods to talk to some of the folk on the factory floor before we get the scoop on this one tho'...

That guitar was built in 1989 and I haven't seen alot of them, but I think that all the neck carves were a bit thicker on the older ones.

Hi All

Well thanks to a Derek, Jimi D and a very nice man from Strings & Things Ray Todd, I have found some information about the guitar that may interest you all.

The guitar was manufactured in August 1989 (picture is attached).

MM did have an option at that stage for a wide neck version of the Silhouette (more info to follow).

Ray's records show that only 2 were imported into England, serial number 89022 (my guitar) and 89024 (?????)

When I get more info I'll post it, guess there is alot of questions like, what is the difference in neck size, how many were made, where are the others, I guess the list goes on.........

Thanks to everyone who has helped me so far, if anyone has any info or question please post/email me.

More info from Derek
____
The Silhouette at its inception was offered in 2 different neck profile versions. Wide and narrow. The wider Silhouette neck profile was first offered in 1986 measuring 1 11/16th at the nut(same as Les Paul)and a 12" radius. The wider neck was also fitted with bass frets. This was offered in an attempt to attract Les Paul players. Unfortunately this option was not offered very long. The October 14th 1986 price list has the option listed for the Silhouette @ $795 US with N/C for the wider neck version. This option was available with a rosewood fret board only.
The pickup options were 3 singles,2 HH, HSS. By 1989 this option was deleted from the catalog. No telling how many were manufactured.
