First off, I don't own a Luke (yet ;), but my friend does.

He mentioned something about the neck of the Lukes being changed (slimmer/thinner) in like 2002-ish, and that this (to his taste) affected the tone in a negative way.

I have not found anything on the forum about this...so my questions:
Were the necks actually changed?

Thanks!

Negative ghost rider, the pattern is full.

If you wanted to argue semantics..
You could say that there was a slight change in neckshape between the original Luke (w/floyd) and the subsequent Luke (stand trem).. But if anything it got ever-so/the-smallest-fraction/marginally bigger, not the other way round...

There was however, a change in p/ups between these two models...
Still EMGs, still Luke's signature set and still awesome... but they were different.

Maybe that's what he was thinking about...

I have an early original and a 2005Luke and the original feels a tad bit narrower and overall smaller than the 05. I never heard anything about EBMM changing neck shapes on the Luke so it could just be a sanding anomoly. The p/u are different but all in all these differences they are my top 2 guitars.

dwells, do you find the same thing on your older Luke vs newer? How are yours different?

The one I ordered in 02 has the smalles neck of any of mine, but i have one made before then and several made after.

The '02 is also the darkest sounding, making it the easiest for me to play but my least favorite tone wise. Mostly use it as a practice guitar on challenging songs.

The only difference in neck shape I could think of, would be the way EBMM hand sands the neck. It could result in slightly different neck shapes.
