Has EBMM ever attempted an 8-string bass? I need one for certain things I do, and played a 12-string bass for years. Just curious if one was ever made by EBMM?
i dunno if there ever was one made but im guessing the market for em isnt too big but if an artist wants one then its a possibility for them... not sure if it'll hit production tho. but im just guessing...
A few weeks ago, I jammed with a guy who had a custom made 8 string bass. It sounded great. He plays with a trio and in a live setting in really fills in the gaps.
I 'assume' that the other four strings are basically baritone guitar strings... is that right?
a 8 string (with 4 notes on, not 8 different notes) would actually be cool.. id consider buying it, but id have to try it first
or we could let ed friedman.. coff.. sorry.. ed friedland test it and post it on his pages. his reviews are always neutral. just playing and letting you as a listener decide for yourself. i like his style alot!
(if you didnt get that friedman joke go read up on harmonycentrals summer namm 2009 press releases.... the one with eb coated bass strings in.. )
I find myself playing in a lot of one-guitar bands, and it really thickens up the sound and somewhat eliminates the need for a rhythm guitar player. I love em! Actually considering trying a 10-string since I have gotten so used to the 5-string bass.
Yes, the "other" strings are an octave higher than the bass string.
If you want a thicker sound why not just use an octaver and/or a chorus? I have played a 12 and must admit it didn't really grab me, but it may be a style thang.
Are we talking about an 8 string thats like... a 12 string guitar (Four strings tuned EADG and 4 tuned EADG only an octave higher, meant to played simultaneously), or a Bongo 6 with 2 more strings?
I have a picture in my head of a cool way to do that 8 string'er thing with a Ray. Make it look totaly like a standard four string... Using a type of duplex type tuning machines with a hidden keys on the back of the head stock, kind of like the old "Ric" twelve string guitars. Then all you would need would be the eight string bridge, nut, and a 8 pole pickup. That would be an interesting piece of equipment...... That got too many rusty gears turning, I think I saw smoke come out of my ears!
