Hello guys

I am new to the forum. I plan on getting a silo hsh. However i got some questions.

1. Can you get the silo with a tremolo and a piezo just like the JP model or is it one or the other kinda deal.

2. Since i do play many genre i dont believe that one guitar fits all. However the kind of music i play more is greg howe and guthrie govan sort of style and some times like to play heavy (as heavy as petrucci plays not the modern metal crap) .Would it be possible to get that sort a a sound from the stock dimarzio silo pickups?. I cant find any info on the virtual paf pups and on the custom wound single pup.

I live in India and I have to travel to another state to check out an EBMM.(Surprised they have it here). So can the pups get the sound i am looking for.I know it depends on a lot of things but can i get it close enough?.It will be a while before i ever get to change the pup (if i have to).

3.Also can you order the guitar with custom colors or are the ones mentioned in the site only available?. Just a suggestion it would be great if we could mix and match the color ,fretboard and pickguard on the site to see what the particular guitar looks like.

4.Also has any one tried the super vee double locking tremolo on silo. Does it fit...Just curious about this system....

Pleas do let me know...thanks:)

Yes you can order the Silo with Piezo. Unless things have changed which I'm pretty sure they haven't. Someone can chime in if I'm mistaken. The colors are what's available unless a limited run comes by.

I have lots of exp with the DiMarzio PAF p and I have to say they're more geared towards the rock/blues rock/hard rock genre. A couple forumites have put crunch labs in the bridge with great success.

I love the vintage term on my silo spec. It can take low low-medium abuse well and say in tune well and can be set to float slightly. If you plan on more abuse like Vai on a good night then you may have to look into a locking tremolo. But other than that the Sulo HSHp is downright one of the most comfortable and versatile guitars in the EBMM arsenal, or just guitars in general.

Good luck

So you are saying piezo equipped tremolo is possible.? and it need not be a fixed bridge piezo....?

So the pups would be more medium output i believe.....
If anyone could provide more info on the supervee it would be great....its a relatively new product ...so maybe a lot of ppl have not used it....I myself am not a whammy abuser....just a mild user....however quite curious about this system....

Good info ..thx Scooby...

If you want the piezo you're going to have to use the Music Man bridge as the piezo pups are in the saddles themselves. If you install a new bridge, (don't even if they make the super V able to fit EBMM models) you're also going to have to find an aftermarket piezo system to match.

Sounds like a world of trouble to me.

You can take it from me, and quite a few others here on the Music Man community. the Vintage trem with the compensated and locking tuners makes for an incredibly stable guitar, even with moderate tremolo use.

The Silo stock will suit your needs quite well, and if you desire a hotter pickup in the bridge, you can head that way too!

yes i have seen the videos on youtube.....just wanted to run by the forum and confirm things.....

obviously it wouldnt be wise to buy a piezo equipped trem and then swap it for a non piezo trem.......mite as well buy a normal tremolo and switch, if needed.

Also i have played a silo some 3-4 years back and i remember it having a very stable trem.....anyways i dont intend to change the tremolo ....coz like i said earlier i dont use the whammy bar much.....most of the time the bar is not even screwed in on my fender........a vintage tremolo is more than enough for me.....I was just curious about the super vee system.

Gonna get the silo next week....thx for the reply kind ppl...cheers :)

I've got a Silhouette Special and a 20th Anniversary Silhouette - it's my favorite guitar model. Yes, the pickups can do hard rock / metal really well. If you want some super heavy death metal, probably look for a different pickup. But, Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Alice in Chains type metal - it will work just fine! The trem is also very stable like you indicated.

I think you will like the Silhouette, it really is a great guitar.

Well, I have a Silo HSH with Tremolo and Piezo.
Its a great guitar, like everybody said. The tremolo is very good and it stays in tune, unless you are Van Halen.
The piezo sound is great, it sounds like a real acoustic over PA.
The pickups have a medium output. I use the Bridge PU for Crunch and Lead Stuff. It has not so much gain compared to the EMGs of my Luke, which I quite like. The SC has a nice strat tone. I use it for funky and clean stuff. The position between Middle and Bridge PU is nice for country music, but its not my style.
The Neck PU ist very warm, I use it for clean and crunch sounds.
All in all a very versatile guitar, I play mainly rock and I love it. If you change your style you can easily change the PUs. If you want you can buy a new pickguard and new PUs and you can create a SSS, HSS guitar, whatever you like.
After all I can only advice you to buy one :)

Here you can find some pics of Silos so you can look for your favorite color: http://forums.ernieball.com/music-man-guitars/53306-post-pics-your-silhouettes.html
