Silo Spec--underrated?

Just like any professional instrument/tool/equipment, the Silo's don't have and don't need that cloud of fame and marketing dollars around them. They were designed by musicians for musicians and they are greatly appreciated by the owners of those guitars, who are often working musicians.

Besides that, it's pretty hard to find a used Silo' available for sale. People don't resell them. I was in market for one a year ago and I really couldn't find ANYTHING for 3 weeks on ebay, kijiji, craigslist... I ended up buying a brand new one, because I had no other option available to me. I knew one guy who owned a Silo' Special SSS Maple neck, and asked him if he can sell it to me - "no way" he said ))

What I like in EBMM in general is the fact that they're not trying to grow enormously huge and grasp all the market segments. Look, who owns MM's - Morse, Lukather, Lee, Petrucci, Van Halen etc.- all those guitarists are awesome players, they have that well-deserved popularity and they DO PLAY GUITAR. On another hand, look who's advertising few other makes - teenager punk bands, grunge bands, death-metal bands (yeah, lotsa gain helps hide the lack of technique), in other words those who are popular but can't play...

So let it be this way ) Let EBMM be played bu those who like music, not just show business

The Silo Special is an amazing and classic guitar! I love mine to death...and honestly usually reach for it even before the 20th Silo...which on its own is an absolutely amazing tone machine. To me there is no reason or difference comparing the BFRs and the standard models...both re built with the same exact quality and standards and equally produce amazing tones. The point is that there is variety and with the BFR line they can experiment with all kinds of different designs and concepts...whereas the standard models are standard for a REASON...they are simply tried and true and stand the test of time. I also think that basing the popularity of a specific guitar through this forum is not accurate to the rest of the people out there that play Balls. I can almost see a trend here, when there is a period of LUKE NGDs, JP ngds, JPX ngds and of course whenever they come up with something new, that usually sparks a GAS frenzy like with the JPXs and HH ALs recently. Now with the roasted board and black sugar finish options, you will see people buy all kinds of different models. Anyway, these are my thoughts, and the Silo Special is brilliant sexy design and tone machine.

I would like to see a Silo Special BFR with a tone block one of these days though. I think at that point you would see people going crazy over them, but still doesnt mean the standard gets no attention.

I think the Silo Spec is a great guitar that seems to be overlooked and underrated--even here on the forum.

It's sort of like EBMM have all these great flavors, and the Silo Spec is the vanilla ice cream of the bunch. It seems like most people go for bigger flavors in JPs, ALs, Gold Rollers, Lukes, Morses, and BFRs of various types. The Silo Spec may be plain vanilla, but man, it's a good vanilla. It's like a great Tahitian Bean Vanilla or something.

Mine's been customized in a few ways... love it! It's hard to play other guitars (even other EBMMs) because I've bonded with it so well.

So true. One of the biggest selling points to me was the very versatile switching. I can't get enough of my Silo Special HSS... I sold two other guitars and now I'm happy with just the Silo.

I'm really tempted to order a Silo Spec with the roasted package...great opportunity to get one with a highly figured neck...never owned one but played a few...great instruments as all EBMM and the combination of alder and singlecoils is a no-brainer!

Man and I keep reading these Silo Special threads or BCM roasted threads and as I tell myself nope not going to get one well damn GAS, it took me a couple trys to get along with the Silo Special and well going to get one maybe not the roasted but will get one but Coffeemug so right killer way to get a killer neck on one.

Wow so I never thought about the switching possibilities of the silhouette special I just looked up the diagram and its almost like morse switching mixed with a petrucci of sorts this thread has definitely added this guitar to my want list thanks guys.

I don't think poor seller was the exact terminology, but from what I have seen it does appear to be one of the slower sellers.

It's just under the radar, and is overshadowed by its 24 fret big brother.

I have mine, and it's a tone monster! Really comfortable to play for LONG periods, too, especially in the studio. It's the one possession I have that I know I can never part with now.

I was just looking for the post where Sterling said something to the likes that 2008 and 2009 were bad years for the company, and that the Axis and Petrucci always sold good and this year there has been a spike in sales with the AL and Morse or Luke I believe. But I definitely know he said sales on the AL went up this year, and I really base that on the AL HH with the rosewood neck. I never was hot on owning an AL but when I saw it in that configuration it went to the top of my must own list, and I guess a lot of other guys too as it became a whole different beast.I did not recall him saying the Silo Special in that post so it must of been another. But as Pete stated I think under the radar is a better terminology since it is offered in a few configurations and may is probably the slower seller, but I think if it was doing that bad it would be gone.
