I have a Silo Special that I am having a bit of a problem with...

Whenever I bend a string at the 15th fret, it completely "chokes" out. I have tried adjusting the trussrod and the saddles, but it still happens. Is this probably just due to a high fret? Do I need to file the fret?

Also, if I need to, can I send this SS to the factory for work? Someday I would like a refret and would rather the experts do it.

Thanks,

Chris

Chris, EBMM only does warranty work and I now know that they will do refrets too. You can also try to find a good luther in your area.

Try posting your location, it helps people with things like this.

What do you mean by "Chokes out"??

The note goes dead, sounds percussive or muted-it does not ring AT ALL.

BTW, I am in West Tennessee-good luthiers are hard to find in my area, unless I go to Memphis or Nashville.

Glenn,
You can get refrets done at EB. I just got my Al back last month. It may take a week or so longer depending on Jon's workload though. I don't think I have to tell you that he did an incredible job...

I had the same issues with notes choking out during bends. He was able to fix everything and it's like a brand new guitar. The setup is superb.

You can call customer service and get an RMA number to have it sent back. You are responsible for shipping both ways though.

Good luck!

Jon,

Would I need to send my SS to you to get a quote?

Yes...Without knowing what is wrong, I couldn't tell you what it would cost to fix it. If you would like to send it in for evaluation, just call customer service at 1 866 823-2255 for a return authorization.
