For those of you who own Sub 1's, I found a pretty cool and completely reversible modification, that allows the use of one coil of each of the humbuckers in parallel to get a $trat-like sound. It involves replacing the stock switch with a DiMarzio Three Position On/On/On 4PDT Pickup Selector Switch.

The info on how it works is here....

And where to get the switch is here

That's how the JP is wired up in the middle position, the Axis Super Sports & 25th get that combination as well. Not exactly strat-like (p'ups are just too far apart), but gets a great clean sound nonetheless.

Sort of like a Petrucci.

Another option is to replace both tone and volume with push-pull pots and wire them so the push shorts one coil of one hum. The other shorts one coil of the other hum. This would give you the option to run one hum and one single or 2 singles (like the above modification).

In my Sublhouette, I went totally overboard with this and can run each hum as a hum, single coil A, single coil B, and reverse phase of each and independently run the other hum in any of these. Some cool sounds and surprising to me, a hum running reverse phase does sound different from forward phase. Of course, that took 2 6 way rotary switches.

(yah...I'm a EE so had to go overboard)

Yup, that config gives me a great clean tone, but still has real presence.

I have the Air Norton and D Sonic each sharing a coil in the middle position, JP6 style.

Great stuff.
