I personally like humbuckers in the neck and bridge position, but I firmly believe single coils give a more distinct sound. Maybe my technique lets me down and using a humbucker helps me mask that lack of technique? I do like a single coil sound near the bridge so I can get certain sounds. Anyway what is your choice and why?

I am such a huge 'bucker guy....I love 'em. Wanted an AL forever, but, the single coils were what killed it for me....until now.....Would love to get my hands on one to try.

I have played humbuckers all my life until recently.
I have never been a great "technician" mostly playing with my heart and soul rather than my clumsy fingers. I have stopped playing for a good ten years and with the discovery of DAW software came back to the instrument but with a totally different approach. The switch to single coils was a revelation to me and I am an improved player from doing it.
All my teenage years I have been playing the classic Les Pauls and Marshall combo with lots of garage bands; with lots of distortion and it was a lot of fun. But now that I am a basement musician and that I play solely for my own personal satisfaction, I have purchase a M90 AL and am waiting for an SSS to come. I also have a HH AL and a 25th that I both love VERY much but the most emotional playing is always done with the single coils.

Easy answer, 25th. :D

But honestly, its a tough pick. Some people really love the tight and defined sound of humbuckers and some people just can't live without the quack of single coils. That very distinct, country/bluesy quack.

I personally want both.

I didn[t vote. There wasn't an option that describes me...........

I like HBs in the bridge spot, but if you can split coils then, I like HSS, HSH and HH:D

I can't vote because I use all kinds of stuff. I don't really have my own sound and often am looking for a sound to work in a particular song. Some are totally obvious. Others, I play around with. I tend to have at least 3 songs in a row, with no time to swap guitars, so it's a choice.

If I absolutely need a single coil sound, I'll use my SSS Al. If I want single coil for some but need hum for another, I'll use my ASS or Sublhouette and run the hum and then coil split. If I'm not set on either or want more of a U2 feel, I'll use the MM90 on the ASS.

I use an effects pedal, so if I really had to, I could certainly live with one guitar in one configuration. If that were the case, I think I'd redo the Al to make it into an HSS.

I hope to get started today, changing my sublhouette from an HH with a gazillion coil configuration settings to a Silo Spec setup with the silo spec pickups and silent circuit....but with a coil split for the hum.

HSS is the best configuration for me. When playing blues, I love using the neck single coil. Most rock stuff I use the bridge humbucker. (I never ever use position 3)

I am a bit of an everything guy however I don't like a single coil in the bridge on a strat sound. Prefer tele or hb or position 2. I enjoy both s and hb in the neck sounds esp for solos. Singles for hendrixy and buckers for santanay sounds.

I voted for humbuckers as both guitars i have at the moment have humbuckers even though the 25th can split the coils to give you a single coil tone also but i would love to add an AL or a silo in the future.

My silo SSS is getting a lot of love at home at the moment but the ASS is getting all the gigs for some reason. It just sounds awesome through my Marshall jvm head. Go on Col dive into a silo. The neck profile is realy nice.

Well, I only have 2 humbucker guitars ( no mounting rings, like petrucci ). I don't think you can get a good sound (or sound that satisfies me) for that kind of music I play (mainly progressive metal) with ONLY single coils. But, I do like Paul Gilberts sound on his Fireman and I like Yngwies sound, sometimes. Ofcourse, for clean there is no substitute for real single coils. If you play jazz you need a bucker though, atleast I do.

So I pick Humbucker only, because thats what I have.

I've pretty much always played HH configs. With the center position on the JP, I can get a single-ish coil sound if I want it. I actually wired my Jackson this way because I like the JP so much.

HSS for me. I love the tone of a single coil in the neck position and the 2 and 4 position phase-y sounds for cleans are heaven. But for the bridge, it can only be humbucker...because for the heavy rock/metal I need that thickness in the bridge. A single in the bridge lacks something in that department but for all other tones I love and prefer singles.
