I really enjoy a wide variety of pickup configurations for distinct styles..however I always found myself opting to get an HH configuration with coiltapping in order to fulfill the majority of my musical needs.
I find that it is possible to get better tones out of other configurations, but for me two humbuckers with coiltapping has been a simple yet practical setup for my style.

I still gravitate to SSS guitars; they're my favorite for overall playing.

I guess I'm a bit out of step in that I don't like HSS or HSH guitars at all; I prefer to have either all single coils or all humbuckers on a guitar.

Unless you were including them under the single coil category you forgot to mention soapbar pickups - I'll take soapbars over humbuckers most of the time when I want something beefier than Fender-style single coils.

I generally need to keep the rhythm going while I sing & humbuckers are just too muddy for that , plus I never need all that much distortion so I'll go with that SSS lineup in a live band. Mind you there is another option.....my twin MM90 ASS is an awesome alternative!!

Why do you want to choose when you can have everything ???
With a Morse you have 2 x HB and 2 x SC, so what ?

I like both SSS and HH, I really can't choose. HSS or HSH would be my compromise options if I had to pick only one, but I can't choose between these two either! I voted HSH only because that's what I have now but I'd be equally happy with anything else.

Are we talking Silo or Silo Special (it looks like it in the poll) - then SSS all the way.

But, actually, why is there no HSSH in the poll? :)

My silo SSS is getting a lot of love at home at the moment but the ASS is getting all the gigs for some reason. It just sounds awesome through my Marshall jvm head. Go on Col dive into a silo. The neck profile is realy nice.

I was under impression you dont have sss anymore and have humbuckers.

HSS for my metal needs, SSS for all the rest :). I love 24 fret guitars and to my ears singlecoils sound better in the neck position on those.

I voted HSS for versatility's sake. I need singles for clean sounds but don't like distorted bridge single coil sounds.
But I have to admit that I recently discovered the sweetness of a neck humbucker for fat singing solos. Thank god, I have my ASS!;)

Can;t vote. I "prefer" the sound of Telecaster single coils first and foremost. However, the humbuckers in my SUB-1 are the best hb's for me since they retain clarity and sparkle. Have had Duncans, Carvins and other humbuckers and sold them all. Now, an AL -SSS is my next save up for guitar

I personally like any combination as long as there is a Humbucker in the bridge position...that fat lead singing tone cannot be recreated with a single coil there. I am 50/50 on the neck position between the singles and humbuckers...depends on what I feel like hearing...but lately its been the HSS config that I like the most.
