I can't tell if the Cobalts are louder or not - they may be but I'm not 100% sure. What's not hard to figure out, though, is that they definitely produce a deeper, bolder, punchier thump on the bottom end and they have a really nice sounding top end and mids too.

BTW, about the Single H Bongo...I'm loving mine more all the time. It's just a thing of beauty all around.

My single H bongo actually came from Ray Duke, so he must have gotten it after this thread ran its course originally.

Bongo H? I have 2. Why? Because they have the sound I hear in my head when I think of perfect bass tone. And perfect times 2 = 1 happy old dude.

I have a pretty sweet trio of 5vers and the Bongo has a tone that the SR5's don't quite achieve. I find that the Bongo just has an amazing blend of grind, snarl and deep resonant power that is never muddy or inarticulate in any way. The sound of this bass is truly inspiring. My SR5's differ only in color and the fact that the Orange one has a ceramic pup and the Silver has an Alnico. Each has a different personality for sure and are monsters in their own right but I have to hand it to the Bongo for pretty much the perfect balance of positive tonal characteristics I could ever ask for. I doubt I could part with any one of these bases at this point, but The Bongo really is in its own league.

Well, good things don't get old, so things like the great/wonderfull/growly/superb/weird/whatever bongo single H will never get old

a lille Xtra

BTW this was recorded with the original factory installed strings, after around 6 months of intense playing everyday, Flat EQ, trough a m-audio usb audio interface into Fl-studio, no effects.

Feel free to comment :)

Great stuff Spot!! Nice playing and cool groovy vibe. Your recording really does a great job of showing the tight, responsive attack and the warm tone of the Bongo H. I suppose there's nothing like having real professional studio equipment to capture the full depth of the bass but this is really nice!!

I say....grab some Cobalt strings for that baby and do some more recordings!! Mind you, at this point, the best you could do for the C string would be a .040" (rather than the .032" that you're used to).

After being Bongo-less for 5 months I found a beautiful candy red Bongo 4H.

I'm still on the lookout for a Bongo 4Hp in any color.
