learn to slap. slap is fun. but dont try and slap the hell out of your bass when you first start. i learned that the hard way. your thumb will hurt. and probably your finger tips on your attacking hand. but its fun. you should check out "the awakening" by les claypool. haha learn to play that and you will be well off in the world of slap.

As for what Jeff Berlin said about slapping(that it destroys all bass players), well, as far as I'm concerned, it hasn't destroyed him much.

Check this video and you'll see what I mean:

You'll need Quicktime for this....but it sure is worth it.

It's cool tho It ain't the kind of taping I want to play ... If I'm to do a solo I'll do something groovy like the lil thing in Dope Man by Less Than Jake , or badass thing like Mat Freeman of Rancid does in Maxwell Murder. But I'll learn slap for those funky thing like the guy of Cloud Nine ( if i'm not mistakening he's the only guy .. mean he does it all Bass ,guitar , drum , piano Sax. all ) Just to keep the rythm but with a Slapy funky sound.

Always aim high Jean-Frederic!!! Not unrealistic, but HIGH!!!
If you don't do so, you limit yourself and all your potential abilities!!

of course you should learn to slap. you can add a lot of funk to your stuff with slap-bass. trust me, learn as much as you can. learn finger-style, slap-bass, tapping, everything. trust me, you will never regret it.
