Hmm, looks interesting. Did i miss a different thread in which you stated why you were going with a fretless graphite neck?

Here's the nutshell...

I've been playing fretless a lot recently since I've been playing with my old/new band... mainly because I've been getting in late and not unpacking my ray... the only other bass to hand is my self-defretted Yamaha.

I've been itching to play fretless in a band situation, but the Yamaha really wasn't cutting it plugged in. So rather than commit funds I didn't have, or trading in a bass I really love to get something I wasn't sure I'd really want in the end, I thought I'd get a replacement neck, probably a Status (another GAS object being the NAMM 100th SR)

Rob Allenson (God bless him) casually mentioned he had a Fretless Status neck he had no further need for, being more of a five string player these days. PMs were exchanged, amazing deal was made, neck was shipped to Avian Flu danger zone and subsequently fitted once tools were located.

This thing sings. Seriously.

:D

Hi Dave :)

Yep... I took some, but forgot to remove finger prints! Doh!

Here's one...

I'll try harder tomorrow.

The pattern sort of shifts as it moves, which is disconcerting :)

I tell you what Dave, the more I play that neck the more I like it and find that it suits my small hands. I've got a stock SR5 and a Bongo 5 and they are fine but the slight reductions in dimensions of that Status neck make all the difference. It's the first choice for any gig. It has great sustain and growl. This means however that I can never buy another make of bass and be totally happy with it as I am hooked into MM string spacing and Status neck dimensions.

Anyone got a spare Status fretless 5-string neck for my other SR5? ;)

A graphite necked Bongo would be very cool.

Yeah, I'd buy two of those.

Oh my. I don't normally get into these things, these after-market modification discussion, but....oh my.

That I could definitely go for.

BTW Dave, Enjoy the neck.

That finish is awesome...and the graphite neck really complements it.

I really gotta get round to doing some pix of my burnt apple sparkle with frettted Status neck. The red Status logo looks as though it was MADE to go with the body.......
