Yeah I know.....got the camera fro mwork, so off to London for interview and then should be able to post some up tomorrow - on photobucket...it sure is a sweet looking bass. Not as white as I was expecting more a creamy, vintage white......

Dave, what does it sound like ? Any problems playing in tune ?

Rob / Dave : If the graphite board wears using roundwounds, how are you supposed to maintain it ?

I haven't had a chance to plug it into my amp and play it properly yet. I've played it through my cheapo Tascam four track, and it sounds like you'd expect a fretless stingray to sound like, maybe a little brighter...

I'll have a better idea of the sound tomorrow night when I head up to the studio.

No problems particularly in playing in tune. Last unlined fretless I had (an Ibanez Musician, I think, about ten years ago) I had a lot of difficulty with intonation. Since then I've switched to a 1,2,4 left hand style, which has sorted out most of the issues I had... I still hit the odd clam.

There is some wear on the finger board, but I'd say it's less than that on my Yamaha, which has a cyanoacrylate surface on it and stainless steel strings. I don't know how much Rob played it, but I'll bet it's had a lot more action than my Yamaha. I'm not worried about it.

I have always used rounds and it was pretty much my first call bass.....the other was my SR5....
I think the wear is pretty much at the major root notes so could even help:D

I played it at the studio last night.

:D

No apparent intonation problems. I'll probably get a better idea of that once we record with it.

I'm pretty bad at describing tones, but I'll give it a go. I didn't really know what to expect, but was slightly worried about graphite's reputation for being a bit sterile, particularly since I play through Trace gear which also has a reputation for being clinical. Not a bit of it. The tone is still warm and punchy, and seems to be more responsive to dynamics, although that could be because I was listening harder than usual. The neck feels great.

The rest of the band were very complimentary about it.

It's still on probation, but it's staying on the bass for the time being.
