I just restrung my 100th NAMM StingRay for the first time and.... the outmost winding of the E string of the freshly opened set of Super Slinky roundwounds stops right before the nut. It's too short by a couple of millimeters.

The 100th NAMM StingRay sports a pre EB string through bridge with mutes, hollow saddles and th MusicMan logotype, most probably from around 1979 - 1981. So it needs the same lenght of string as StingRays of that period.

Is this a common problem, or just one odd E string?

Oli, "string-through-body" is what you mean. All EBMM instruments have the strings going through the bridge.

Just helping out! :)

i have no problems with slinkeys. only the d'addario are a little bit to short.

but the strings on my '00 ray (special run with stringthrough) have to be a little bit longer than on my 30th anniversary model (~2mm).
maybe there is some "tolerance"...

That's interesting... I ask specifically about the older StingRays because AFAIR the location of the bridge was moved a bit when the string mutes assembly was deleted.

Those others with NAMM 'rays... what is your experience?

My 30th Anniv SR has through-the-body bridge and I just finished putting on some Slinkies and they were long enough. But these were Extra Slinky! :D

I've been playing pre-eb stringthru body basses for many moons.
I remember having to make sure that I bought 'extra long' in a couple of the brands of string that I would use, otherwise the same thing would occur.
Can be very frustrating.
