I re-installed some Stage III flats on my Stingray and the G-string kept slipping out of the tuner peg, despite my winding it carefully with the end firmly in the hole. Anyone know about this and/or a possible solution?

Let's see if I can explain this: thread/lay the string *horizontally* through the peg slot to get the first wrap, i.e., don't poke the string down in the hole. This forces a couple of sharp bends in the string which usually is sufficient to hold an otherwise too short string. Hope this is clear.

I had this happen too. Couldn't get the string to tune - then realized it was slipping. I ended up folding over the very end on the string to put down in the hole. Seemed to hold it better. I may have trimmed the end a bit too much as well. I like the suggestion above.

I just tried this and it worked; thanks for a great solution at the right time. I love flats on my Ray and will re-buy with confidence!

Yes!!! Glad I can help. With my (very real) lack of depth perception, I've snipped a few too short myself. ;)

And I love me some flats as well. Enjoy!

glad it worked! i was about to break the horrible bad news that i got when i restrung my bass recently...the string was falling apart and had to be replaced! this is only a bad thing if you like bragging about the age of your flats, which i do. so i ordered a D string...its on backorder :(
