The frets are fine. Plenty'O life left in them. The bass plays and sounds fantastic! Just needs a little aesthetic make-over.

No, you don't have to pull the frets to stain the fretboard.

Do not remove the neck, use a q tip to apply the stain. Let it soak in for a little and wipe the excess off with a rag. Any you got on the nut or frets will wipe off then. Since the sub neck is finished you don't have to worry about any soaking in to the maple. On an unfinished neck put some masking tape on the part you don't want stained. After you have removed the excess, let it dry and then put some gun oil on, Hoppe's is a good brand. Let that soak in and then wipe real good with another rag and you are ready to put your strings back on. Remember though, the color of stain you use is permanent! So be sure you want a different look. Try a test area on the piece above the nut to start with to make sure.

I would suggest covering and taping that white body tho to save it from potential splatter. I ebonized the board on my white RickenFaker and a couple minuscule splatters made it to the finish. It was a bitch buffing those out.

Holy SMOKES! That Marty Bell is one efficient dude! 10 days in his shop and she's ready to ship! She's gonna look killer with my black pickguard and ebonized neck.

I'm digging my homemade contours as well.

Here she is! Looks better than I had ever hoped! The color is very hard to photograph. It's more of a copper hue. I'm digging the combo with the ebonized board. What a HotRod! Oh yeah, sounds great too!

This is one of the reasons I respect fellow Knuckle Heads. This is just pure pride in the name of love for a Music Man instrument. Very Nice!:)

Thanks guys! I'm real happy with the outcome.

This plays differently from my SR4. Can anyone tell me if there is a difference in neck profile between the standard SR and the S.U.B. version?
