new to ebmm, but not new to guitars, 30 years of playin and a pro touring , records, videos, etc., Owned and played too many guitars. current list 3 lado custom builds, anderson drop hollow t, 4 l.p customs, 1 l.p deluxe, 2 jackson soloist, 2 70's fender strat modded into super strats (floyd/humber), 5 high end high gain amps - diezels, wizard, modded marshalls.
Anyhow, tried ebmm a few months back.. my first experience with ebmm.. -luke3, jp6 bfr, axis, albet hh,-- liked the luke hh for ergonomics not too sure about the tone at that time.
Next up jp6 bfr, very nice playability, versatility, was impressed, did not expect it, sound was good, but not to die for. Next albert hh - great playability simple and it works, again tone ok, but not knock my socks off.
But i left the store with a very good positive attitude of embb 's. I think i have been brain washed all these years playing the big 2 giants as nothing is better than the 2 gaints.
Months forwarded, back to music store, i head straight to the l.p's - zoom, pick up the vos expensive one, i play and play, but am not comfortable with its playability, i want to luv itv(because its expensive), but not working, pick up another, than another, and another, well, am searching to fond that special bond in my hands ( were still talking guitars here !). I had enough of $4-6k of promises. Sales dude says come check this out, grabs an ibanez shredding lazer machine, so i try it, fretboard too wide for my hand, and these are suppose to be small necks ?, well no not for me. Fine, we move on, now he says this is my favorite, pulls the standard jp6 , and yes it feels comfortable. next albert hh, , feels nice, next luke3 again feels good. Next a moorse w/floyd - oohhh not so nice feel, action was too high and neck curve was not right for me, no thank you. So, am slowly converting to ebmm. Come home grab my l.p. custom and , oh no, this is terrible, play for an hour it gets better, but i can not stop thinking about the ebmm's that felt great right away. The 1 thing is the tone from the les paul that keeps me hooked. What model ebmm will get me that tone ? Or model + pickup swap ?

thanks for your time

Welcome!

I think only a LP will sound like a LP. But if you want to get close to that tone I'd get an AL HH and put some PAF-like pickups in there. Personally I really like the stock pickups!

True. There is more a lot more to life than the big two. And there are a LOT of other GREAT guitar makers out there today.

EBMMs are not trying to be LPs, or even strats, and you'll never get exactly that tone, because it's not intended. What you will get is what you've already discovered - unparalleled comfort and ergonomics, great tuning stability, great intonation all over the neck, and fit and finish that the big two can't compete with. In short, fantastic instruments for professional artists. No matter what pickups you put in them, they'll never sound like a '59 LP, but then again neither does a 2012 LP. Learn to love the tonal differences as part of the unique vibe of each EBMM instrument and you'll kick yourself for not having done it sooner.

And welcome to the forum!

Gotta agree that there's no EBMM that exactly has that LP tone. I'm in the same boat as you and fantasy. I come from playing LP's for a long long time. Played an EBMM and fell in love. Had a standard JP6 first (miss that like crazy) but moved onto the 25th/Reflex for more versatility.

I gotta tell you, the 25th gets close. Not in construct/feel but tone. You wont get that snappy snarl you get from a stop tail and short scale length, but the fat/round warm goodness is there. I slapped some 11's and it sounds great.

I have another acquisition coming soon, that might even get closer.... who knows? Will report then!

I was thinking 25th as well, but figured someone with more experience with that model would chime in.

Welcome to the forum, Pstar.

Good luck deciding which ebmm to choose. Whichever one you do take home, you will soon realize that the necks are the most comfortable necks ever. Good luck on your quest for the right ebmm for you...

ebmm guitars r starting to hunt me. Had to go back to store. Again b-line it to the expensive les paul's, grab a few play ,
across the room , grab all the ebmm 's, putting a smile on my face. Its just the feel of the necks. All of them felt comfortable.
Forgot to mention, played them all without pluggin in. So, my second guessing myself has confirmed to do more testing of ebmm. Next time, will be to plug. Again l.p's did not feel no where close in playability. TRying to de-program my l.p. head., getting there. Pizza guitar has peaked my interest. I guess next summer before we really see them.

Try the Reflex/25th

I have a BFR Black Sugar Reflex, Roasted Neck.

As good as any LP, IMHO. :D

Big Poppa owns Ernie Ball, if he says the Reflex and the Armada (not available jus yet I believe), get the closest to an LP, then I would follow his advice.

welcome from a fellow michigander! I grew up playing les pauls and now my main guitars are Albert Lee HHs. before that, I was playing EBMM Axis Super Sports.

Now that I see this new Armada guitar coming out.. double humbucker, bigger body/more wood.. I feel like this will be the les pauliest sounding/feeling EBMM guitar. The reflex also has a bigger body than most of the guitars right now. I don't own a reflex, but the thing sounds amazing even unplugged.

Nothing stays in tune better than my Albert Lee's, both in the studio and live!
