SM Signature - to Trem or not to Trem

Bummmmmed!

Halfway from Syracuse to Scranton and was told SM was sold last night. I am so depressed Oh well...next time.

BTW...I think I will get a Trem version. I like to do some ALt country stuff and chord warble is a must.

Btw, the Floyd is set for dive only. You might want it to float a wee bit for vibrato from the bridge.

The same could be said about players who use hardtails or guitars with only one pickup. Its just an assumption thats totally unfounded. For all the players who cant play the guitar that have a Floyd on, there is probly twice as many who cant play and use a hardtail, whats that say about them?

Anyway, ive had enough of defending locking trems because there is so much BS talked about them by people who know nothing about them. Im out.

In hindsight, I wish I would have chosen the hardtail as opposed to the Floyd. Oh well, maybe next time!

Nobody made fun of your playing so don't take somebody's blanket statement to heart. Look, lots of guys use non-locking trems (again, like Luke, JP, Jeff Beck, Scott Henderson ... the list goes on) and divebomb just fine. And some guys use locking trems. If you use one, great. If you don't also great.

I don't see why you have to defend locking trems ... do you get a kickback from FR sales? Besides, the comment you just made about hardtail players is exactly the same thing ... now that you've fired off an insult are you even?

Someobody asked for advice on which guitar to buy. We all put in our two cents and guess what we have different opinions. It doesn't always have to be all about you ...

Ive been playing 36 years and for 30 of them I've used non trem guitars.

I tried an AL with a trem and I liked it - it's stable, it doesn't go out of tune when you "bomb", it doesn't go out of tune when you break a string, and it doesn't go out of tune when you bend with double/triple stops.

I tried it, I liked it - I bought it. I still like my hardtails , but My AL is my bestfriend.

Because of that I recommend trems to people when they ask an opinion.

Tim Sullivan SWEARS by hardtails - I don't ridicule him. I listen to the points he put's forward.

I've seen Vai and Satch play and boy can they use the floyd system - awesome!
I don't think for one moment that they are technically inept because of their Floyds.
It's just not for me - it may be for you and let's listen to your view on why they should be on guitars - now that is the decision that can only be taken by Jacobri when he decides to buy a guitar with / without a trem.

Now when someone, as Beej says asks for an opinion, people are going to vent their opinions. If they don't like Floyds it's their opinion not the world's- just don't take exception to someone elses viewpoint, if you want to take your ball home with you (no pun intended) or bash the Monopoply board up in the air spoiling the game - it leaves a sour taste with the other participants.

I'm a relative newcomer to this forum (just over a year) and like the attitude taken by forum members - if ya don't like the house rules, fine take your toys with you and don't come back. If I hear a continuance of acerbic remarks I won't be hanging about.

I've taken exception to a few things said but (in the main) have minded my "p'" and "Q's" and stayed shtum. Nearly all on this forum have a great laid back approach, let's keep it that way. Otherwise Koogie's gonna whip some butt!

Let's remember, we are in Poppa's house and no one likes it when voices are raised.

Thicken up your skin a bit, chill out relax and continue in the great way you have made your valued points in the past- better still let's take the short 2 hour motorway trip and have a beer and talk "balls".

But let's just show manners and a little restraint at times.

Personally I am no huge fan of Floyds - they are simply too much of a hastle, if you ask me. For my needs, a good non-locking trem with locking tuners and a properly cut nut is where it's at. I have never tried a better trem than the one on my JP - it's a near perfect design (just add ball bearings and it is perfect) and so comfortable and stable, it'll convert most Floyd guys.

I would go hardtail with the Morse and then get another guitar for whammy abuse - but that's just my 2c.

True Pablo, all the trems on my balls work perfectly and never go out of tune, they are the best trems on the planet.

As Spud said, I am 'Dr Hardtail'. I have always used a hardtail, and probably always will. I love the percieved tone benefits and the ease of tuning and stringing up. I have played probably every kind of bridge known to man, and anything that is not solid makes my playing sound like a warped record, as I always rest my hand on the bridge. The only trem system I really liked was the one on my Brian May guitar:

This way, you had a fixed bridge, and the pitch changing was done at the tailpiece, similar principle to a bigsby I suppose.

I have played many Floyd equipped Axis guitars, and its great that they only go down, adding stabilty. That said, I personally could not be doing with all the hassle that a trem system adds for a dive bomb effect.

But, and a big but, I have nothing against people who play a trem guitar. My guitar playing pardner in crime, The Stoner, has Floyds on his Axi and gets some great sounds and effects, and he is dead comfortable with this set up. I love EVH's whammy work, and Jeff Beck is the master of the Strat trem. I also like Brian Mays vibrato with the whammi, and David Gilmore and Hank Marvin are both masters of the trem system.

I do agree that deep breaths need to be taken sometimes before posting, otherwise this forum will turn into a YNGWIE SUCKS..... NO YOU SUCK style forum and thats the last thing that any of us want!
