How are the cleans on your modded Jet City 20? Did you add the loop and saturation mod too?
I did the Brown Eye mod + Sat switch (it gives you more gain & more of an aggressive voicing). Didn't do the loop ... I might put in one of the Metroamp Zero Loss loops at some point.

Surprisingly, the cleans aren't bad with the gain down and the master up. But you won't get them at really loud volumes. One of the bands I'm playing with these days is cleaner stuff- we do a lot of re-worked Steely Dan covers, etc. I'm using this amp with my SSS AL and it sound great.

I could get stoned on this one so preparing for the bocking to begin...

i have my main pedalboard based around a TC Nova System so that's kind of my constant and for practice i used a Eppi Valve Junior (that was modded with adding reverb and a Bitmo Tri Mod) and it's rock solid with A lopoline 112 Wide cab... it's plently loud enough and has fairly good tone now...
i actually had a buddy ask to use it for a live show and he ran a small od pedal in front to really boost it and he had great reports with it...

if you're not wanting to go that route i really like the HT5 it seems to be the leader of the pack in the lunchbox tube amps... although i did mess with an Egnater Tweaker the other day at the shop and i had a lot of fun with it... great tones for just about everyting you could possibly cover (minus acoustic)

Get an old Champ off of ebay then get a Weber 8" speaker for it. Heavenly sound and at around $300, plus you'll always get your money back out of it if they pry it from your cold dead fingers. You can also get an rca to 1/4 phono adapter and run it into a separate speaker cab. I play mine into a 2x12 and I love it.

Champs are just fantastic little amps. If you get one and want it checked out and recapped and bias checked. Send it to me and I'll do it for cost of components only, labor free. Need one fixed, I can do that as well.

Not a bad option at all. I LOVE my silverface vibro champ. I'll second the used blues jr as well. I've had one since the mid 90s and have always loved it.

I'd like to try a Jet City THD PicoValve in person. With two 12ax7's and the ability to use practically any octal power tube (6V6, KT66, EL34, 6L6, etc) it looks like a nice little practice amp for the money.

This is heads and tails above the stock amp ... it's a little fire breather, very surprising for a 20W amp. Also ... you've got to get rid of the stock faceplate for extra coolness. I took the one off the back and moved it to the front (the grill look) and just left the back open. Looks meaner that way :)

Thanks Beej, I'm in a market for a fire breather that is small. Got a lot of huge combo and half stacks already, but I want something compact for quick lugging around, but with great tones.
With my JP6 and JP50, I can't even stand playing them through a mediocre amp, it's gotta kick ;)
