You really cannot see it in the pic, but the B-string is rubbing against the fretboard on the headstock side of the nut:

What would you do? All the other strings have plenty of clearance across this transition. I've considered filing a small channel where the string goes across the end of the fretboard. But before I take a file to my 2-day old JP, I'd like ya'lls opinion :)

Why? What harm will it do...mine is close, but it's not touching...

if it is touching hard it may affect the tunning stability after using the trem. If it is B string I don't think it will mess up that part of the fingerboard. ehhh I'm only thinking loud

Oh so it's actually rubbing then, what if you apply some kind of lubricant, nut sauce or something...see if that helps with the tuning stability...you'll know right away cause a Pet's as stable as a barn full of horses...hahahahahah get it! :D

What kind of nut is that? My Petrucci has a black more narrow nut.

Good catch, Henry! My JP has a black plastic nut, too, which as you said is more narrow.

What gives? Was the nut replaced on this specimen, or did EBMM make them a little differently at some point.

I wonder if you have a nut slot that is filed too deep?

If you're the original owner, you're still under warranty so I'd call EBMM customer service and follow their lead.

Nah haven't called yet... I was hoping for some suggestions from this wonderful community but since everyone is headed to SLO except me, this can wait. Until then I pulled the trem bar so I wont be so tempted to use it :)

Another idea I have is to use a key from a staggered Schaller set.

Could it not be as simple as the slot being too deep for that string i.e a faulty nut moulding? Seems easier to get it replaced rather than damage the fretboard finish. Goo dluck in getting it sorted though.

Actually, my new CBP is doing the same thing. But the nut on mine is also kind of chewed up.

They are going to replace it for me so I don't have any future trouble.

Also, I actually have two strings rubbing and it has caused some tuning stability problems when using the trem at all.

No worries though, they are going to fix mine up for me. I'm sure they'd do the same for you. Give'em a call!
