Smellybum
Well-known member
Ladies and Gentlemen, Smelly has left the building…..
and is now officially in rehab/retirement and no longer buys guitars.
Well first things first, this is a very public show of gratitude for Sterling, who very kindly offered to make me a guitar that I can take into retirement. – Ever since I came here I did things ‘wrong’ I PM’d BP on my first week. I’ve asked some dumbass questions, and posted threads that nobody got… but..
A really nice man posted this and it made my year.
Sterling – thank you very much – I am eternally grateful, and feel somewhat privileged to have benefitted from your generosity on more than one occasion
I appreciate the guitar business and in particular Ernie Ball Music Man isn’t going to cure cancer, put people on the moon or bring world peace, but it sure makes a lot of troubles in people’s life easier and brings happiness to those who’d be overlooked as just another consumer elsewhere. To take a rehab break hasn’t been easy, but you’ve helped considerably.
Thank you
Mike
– A very happy Smellybum
Also there are some unsung heroes who helped with this A LOT –
1. The Stiffness! - thanks for handling this Nathan, you officially Rock sir
2. Blind Lemon – the lemon has been with me every step of the way and helped me out considerably, I will miss him dearly when he retires, but can’t wait to hook up at guitar nation in November
3. Fingbeagles – Keith, if you hadn’t have taken those pics at the Dallas guitar show I guess none of this would have ever come to light - You feature in my movie as a thank you!
As you saw from my previous ‘unique’ thank you I’m not on the same chapter as most of you let alone the same page…. Anyone who missed it here it is….

And is seems only fitting to make a sequel…….
This took about 2 weeks to make it's 6 minutes of your live you'll never get back - but hopefully you'll find it funny....

REVIEW
OK – So on to the wondrous piece of virgin angel crafted wood…. This guitar is AMAZING – When I got my first AL I got it used when waiting for my DD Luke, the AL when I first got it was light and flexible with a huge range of tones, when I got my BFR AL it was the same but on Viagra, Mr Chunky-butt tone block gave it a richer tone acoustically and I love it – so when this arrived I didn’t know what to expect…..I appreciate I’m late to the party (but worth the fashionable entrance ) but here’s half an attempt at a review….
The HH AL for me is the best bits of an AL with my ultimate pickup layout – The Humbuckers are uber quiet (took me a few minutes to figure out why no silent circuit!)
The all rosewood neck (my first time with one…) is silky smooth and I felt a proper tool for not buying one sooner, the frets seem slightly different, but better. And I think it’s a newer bridge than my 2004 AL.
Loads of tones at your fingertips including the volume control which you can easily use as a boost, my favourite ball to date.
The lightweight body and range of tones means that even you hard core heavy Les Paul people who gig could think of retiring the old beasts for a new slicker all in one gigging option.
I’ve also plugged this straight into a sound card (as I’ve been playing for 2 hours and now my kids need to go to bed!) – The pickups have near zero hiss and it’s a big tone running a tubescreamer in the line for recording brings out nice creamy tones.
Don’t let my old 3 chord wonder style fool you this could be a shredding machine too – before I went Silent had this straight into a Marshall DSL 50 head and it can scream with the best of them.
Such a versatile instrument (and I really mean that – not a fanboi comment) it’s got it all –the mahogany wood is such a complimentary tone wood and so light – could EBMM solved the mahogany Vs. weight problem for guitars – I think so!
And I’m very spoiled with this amazing colour, so sexy, I could stare at it al day………..
PICS
It’s raining in inverness – so no decent pics today…. But here’s some!
THE BLUES BROTHERS!
Apologies for Everything – buy one you won’t regret it – and if you do send it to me I love it!
Cheers

What can you do for a guy with a smellybum? Make him a guitar. Thanks for the props but I probably should have done that in private as I did not nor do I ever do this stuff for my ego...It just seemed important to a great guy.
