they will also be made of ebony and will be black in color.. in fact they are the exact stripes that were cut out ;)

MrM

ps: just tryin to say you should get an unlined ebony board ;)

Scott is implying in the "official" thread that this is indeed the case and lines will not be offered

Which means I'll finally have to learn to play fretless properly :(

Ah ha! Thanks! Now will they be really prominent stand-out type lines or subtle fade-grey-to-black only-seen-close-up type of ghostie lines?

I have the latter on my existing dare-not-be-named-here fretless and they are great for practising and yet no-one can see them when you're up playing, ideal for talentless fretless bluffers like me ;)

My fault, my irony detector(TM) got what you were saying but I misread Dargies post

Still, I wonder what colour the lines will be...?

It always bothers me when people have this idea that the only proper fretless has no lines or that you're somehow cheating if you use lines. I play double bass and also own a lined Bongo 5. Why did I get lines? Because while I use my ears as much as the next guy, I often can't hear myself as well as I would like and if I am on a darker stage or pit it helps give me a point of reference when going higher on the neck. Some people like the look of a blank plank better and that's cool if you have good intonation, otherwise what's the point? You're bass will look cool and you'll sound like a schmuck.

I probably could have made my point just as well by saying Tony Levin uses lines. :p

There is no right or wrong on lined vs. unlined IMHO.... I like blank plank for the look... and honestly, the lines confuse the heck out of me. The side marker dots are my best friends though :).

Mingus, I personally prefer the look of the blank plank, especially if it's all black - on a DDII Bongo it's going to look sublime - but I'm not precious about it. I do however think the "ghost" lines on my current fretless are a great compromise and would be nice to see on the DDII - I just don't know how the SLO guys would do it though.

Anyway, I agree, end of thread hijack, back to Dargies... :D

Awww, that hurts, please tell us you got lucky a few times too...?

If by 'lucky' you mean cracking your head on a rusty drain cover and ending up back at the hostel covered in blood with wallet and phone both gone then...yes I did. I'm home now though with a bandage.

But back to the original idea of the thread, that DDII looks so good I literally can't believe it. I'm left speechless once again.

please stop hijacking threads all guilty paries especially the tired and beat to death lined vs unlined...I love the elitist " I dont need lines" I've heard a TON of bass players that should either be shot by the intonation police or forced to use lines. Many players play great without them but as a rule...I get seasick sometimes listening

now back to the Dargie

And can we talk about those nice colours shown on the Big Poppa Albert Lee guitar pics - any chance of them becoming available on basses (sorry Dargie - awesome colour and flip but I just don't like green instruments :( .........ducks awaiting response from those who do)

I think green basses themselves are the problem. They divide the market into folks who like them and some who don't.

Divide et Impera.

I'm actually completely colorblind... but hey my audience isn't, and even I love the green.... and Ebony feels real niiiiiiice. :)

So +1 for the green.... and the red.... and heck one day hopefully even a Pearl Purple. :)
