Another cool Sabre moment from the Grammy Awards show way back when. I can't see the Sabre Classic happening though. The EB versions sure were beautiful but they are hard to find.

I guess the reason I asked was to find out if the SRHH could get the Sabre sound?

The 2EQ preamp sounds different enough that EBMM still has it around as option for the StingRay. That alone will make a difference. But given that the pickups are different, and the preamp is different, I'd guess you can get close on the settings bridge H, HH, neck H, but none of the other settings.

Look at it this way: There's even a tonal difference between a classic StingRay and a modern StingRay. So there must be a difference between a classic Sabre and a modern StingRay HH.

absolutely, there is a difference. i own both basses. my sabre dosn't get much play. stingray/sterling/ bongos definately sound better. but, i love the way the sabre feels. the sabre dosn't sound bad. you just have to put a lot of work into it to get "good tones". ito sum it up it's Different thats the only way to describe the sound.

Just came across a '79 Sabre at a local shop. Not my thing but some cool tones for sure.

i think really(self included) the reason people would like to see a sabre remake is cause they want a 2H stingray classic, and thats the best excuse to do it LOL

Oh and i think im one of the seven people that liked it.

I think it's much more fun to hunt them down on the used market and know they can only appreciate ;)

Here is another fine example:

I think that thing has a great sound!

Tell me about Starbucks: where and when? :)

Another cool Sabre moment from the Grammy Awards show way back when. I can't see the Sabre Classic happening though. The EB versions sure were beautiful but they are hard to find.

The bass in this video is not a Sabre - looks like some sort of custom F***** style bass - P body, pair of J pups, 4 in line tuners on headstock - and the clip is from the Johnny Carson show when McDonald had gone solo and left the Doobies.

As you'll see in other threads on this topic, I'm one of the 7 or 8 Sabre fans, and I always get the same answer - NG, as in No Good on the Sabre. I thought it would be a great time for a Sabre Classic with whatever improvements BP might want to make, but BP has a lot of new cool stuff in the works - there was a thread on this a few months ago where I asked this very question.

I'm always on the lookout for Sabres on ebay and I'm hoping to find a beater for a good price - then take it apart and do a total restoration.

Are we watching the same video?

I just watched the right video with Tiran Porter and the Sabre. When I originally clicked on the link, it played the video from the Johnny Carson show with unknown bass player and a Fender style bass.

I gotta admit...I would be totally down for a Sabre classic. I didn't know they were THAt unloved! I'd like it in some new colors though!
