I've always wanted one of these "other" basses and I found one that was quite nice. Here's the funny thing. I always read about how these basses NAIL the Stingray tone with their bridge pickup solo'd. Ha! Not even close. I like this bass...don't get me wrong, it does what IT does well. But...

This proves to me that if you want to NAIL the Stingray tone you have to do it with a Stingray baby! I still love my Stingrays best...they just SING.

Sing
Sing a song
Make it simple
To last your whole life long
Don't worry that it's not good enough
For anyone else to hear
Sing
Sing a song

La la la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la

Just somethin' 'bout them MM basses. Can't wait to get my single H Bongo.

Do you mean an L1500? If so, I too crossed paths with one briefly on my hunt for the 'Ray tone. It does not lurk there, but it was a nice bass.

There is only one place where the 'Ray tone lurks 100%...

Have you seen the latest attempt ? Their "Big Block" ?

I messed with one. Nice job but nothing special. It sounds way outside their tradition, and it's clearly lacking any Ray qualities, so I'm left to wonder who'll buy them ? Actually, it's more a ho' of the L1000 than of the Ray. Add a neckbucker to go after the L2000 buyer and they might actually keep the bigblock in production.

Not a 1500 but you're very close. And I'm using your quote as my new quote.

It would seem he means an L1000 or maybe even the Climax, essentially an L1000 with the PU moved closer to the bridge. Has coil switching, BTW.

Notice I said with the Bridge pickup solo'd? Both of the basses you mention one have a single pickup. :)
