Just started a new band. We play our first gig this weekend. As soon as I have some gig money, I won't ever be Bongoless again. And, I swear, it's gonna have to be be a single H. Or an H/S, or both.

No quiver of basses will be complete until it has at least one Bongo. I'm still a Stingray man at heart but I know goodness when I play it.

There may be a Bongo in my future too. My need is more due to weight than G.A.S. That 30th has been giving my back some issues.

Oh I get it. I love the number of tones available from even the Single H Bongo. Soon as my ducks are in a row, its Bongo time..again. Im gonna hang on to the next one.

I find it very interesting that I keep going back to my Stingray 4H RW. I plug that sweet baby in and I am in such a comfort zone that I start to wonder why I got the bongos I have. Then I plug in my Bongo 4HH RW and I start to wonder what the hell is wrong with me that I would think something is better than this. Then it starts all over again.
Now I am GASing for a Stingray 4HH RW and a Sterling 4HS RW and maybe a Stingray or Sterling or Bongo 5HH RW or 5HS RW.
I think the thing that I am learning is diversity in EBMM basses is where it is at. I keep trying other basses and feel like something is missing in them. I keep going back to the EBMMs. I have to say that I have been nothing but happy as hell with my MM basses and don't think that will change. I have grown so into the tones I get out of them.
If only my wife would let me sell my other basses!!!!

I don't know if I get it either but I do know I'm a s***y player and my Bongo still makes me sound good. That's the kind of paradigm I need.

I've felt your pain Travis but now i'm cured.....I took a drive to Rex's house Sunday morning and picked up a Bongo 4HH........SVT + Bongo =THUNDER!

None.
None at all. It took me a while to figure it out, and I've had three or four HS Bongos over the last few years, but now - got it. Don't get me wrong, I liked the single coil before, but kept thinking, "Well, it isn't a single H. And it isn't a double hummer...."
The problem was me. A couple of weeks ago, I finally got my HSp out in a band situation - and, unlike coWpilot, this was a more traditional cover band, so I was forced to look for a few different types of tones from time to time.
You know, aggressive honkiness for the Cream tunes, a fuller, deeper tone for the blues-based stuff...and the single coil really excelled.
(I still have to fumble with the piezo/mag blend knob, which can be scary!)
Bongos. Rock.
Hey Travis, I of all people wouldn't attempt to dissuade you from the simple beauty of the single H, but what are you considering?

Jack, I honestly wont have the budget until after I get married next year.
Im torn between the H/SC and the Single H. You see, the Single H brought the goods live, it was like a point and click bass. Never had a hard time getting it to sound good and/or sit in the mix. However, the single best studio tone Ive ever had (out of probably a hundred or so studio tracks) was a H/SC Bongo strung with flats. The catch is that I did not do a session with the Single Hs I had. Well see how it turns out, but my next bass WILL be a Bongo.
