BFR Axis? Hmmm....I seem to recall something like that. I know there were some koa top Axis' made and I believe they sported the Ball Family Reserve inlay. I am not 100% sure.

There are some koa-topped BFR ASSs in the Musician's Friend inventory.

well, Lord Toneking..

There has been no official announcement of a BFR (Ball Family Reserve) Axis just yet. The BFR instruments are limited run (except in the case of the BFR Petrucci guitar which is offered on an ongoing basis). So far, the BFRs have been variations on the existing models.. different woods for the bodies, usually with excellent grade quilt or flame maple tops and a mahogany tone block embedded into the body. But a BFR instrument can be anything that the folks at EBMM feel like whipping up.. there's no pre-set rule for what defines a BFR instrument.

So, a BFR Axis could be anything.. perhaps a regular Axis with the mahogany tone block. Maybe an extra pickup selection option.. (the BFR Petrucci has a push-pull pot that gives you an additional pickup combination that the 'regular' Petrucci's don't have). Maybe a BFR Axis would sport gold hardware as some Limited Edition instruments of previous years.

Wow! I stand corrected. Foggy, where did you find those pics?
Very interesting BFR Axis guitars! I knew there were some koa ones (like the one we saw at the jam session in SLO a few years ago), and I played a super special one in Dallas at Jack's b-day bash.. can't remember if it was koa or something else unique about that Axis. (I remember I couldn't play it worth a crap because I'm so used to the *much* different Petrucci neck.. but that wasn't the guitar's fault!)

You are so my favorite wordsmith.
I am really enjoying sitting back and seeing what the folks at EBMM whip up.

The Koa BFR's are on page three of the BFR thread. I believe they made two trem and two standard bridge. All were available at musicians friend's private reserve guitar site. They still have them. I got close, but was holding out for the config of the BFR AL when these went up.

Can you be a Lord, and a King at the same time?
I can be your Lord if you would send me a simple MM90 Axis with the piezo:);)...by doing this, I will give you a lifetime of heavenly tone:cool:

as far as being a King and a Lord?? That would be...yes:)

Now PM me for my address my son, I need that guitar before next weekend:)

This is a REAL problem. Now, I have to start eating mac & cheese again to get a BFR Axis. Those are just plain HOT.
I thought having 2 was enough. I'll have to go visit Kyle at L.A. at some point....

Screw Mac+Cheese, that's expensive stuff.
I'm surviving on free ketchup packets and tap water....
