@ Greg: dang! I was hoping somebody would tell me yes. I like the tonal options that I have heard so far, but hadn't heard any of the tones which I mentioned. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply.

Take care

It's true, the LIII does out-Strat the strat.
After some time with my LIII HH I've come to the conclusion that the pickups do some things better than the EMGs and some things the EMGs do better than the Dimarzios.

For me, a searing lead tone is better produced with the EMG 85' because it's more controlled and has a sort of smooth compression to it. However I'm liking the Dimarzios for mid gain rhythm and the split positions do fantastic cleans. The transitions are that much hotter though that they take some taming. The volume and tone controls are much more useful on the LIII. I barely use them on the Luke II, where they pretty much stay fully on. Still, horses for courses, I now have the full range of tones I need with here guitars, and there's no need for a Strat or anything else for that matter.

as I save for my retirement project - a Delorean!!

Hilarious! My childhood neighbor had one. It looked so cool at the time, but it might have been slower than a pinto. Seriously, that thing did not like to move. What's your interest in Deloreans?

By way of not offending, I had a fetish for MGBs and restored two in my teens. The wiring harness . . . people told me, but . . . Although, once I switched out the dual carbs for a Weber DGV, they became very fun to drive on twistys with the top down and a girl clinging to my arm.

I want to see pictures when you get this project up and running.

Great story. While I still have a couple of those 'other' guitars, I'm back in full EBMM mode myself. Nothing compares in my opinion. Great build quality, great tone, great cosmetics, great options, etc... Did I mention the best dealers and customer service? EBMM for the win!

I just traded in my last Fender Precision, for a StingRay 4H. 45 Years of playing Fenders, and Gibsons is finished. I love my StingRay.

Apologies for being ot with the thread title.
I was very interested in cars back in the 70's. Married, then took delivery of a new son lol, money was tight and I learnt car mechanics to keep our BL Mini on the road.
I had a love for the Beetle and gravitated to them. Becoming knowledgeable in Beetles I became chairman of the South Wales Vee dub club.
I slowly moved away from Beetles after writing off a 54 oval and then selling on a 60 Baja.
Now as I approach retirement I need something to keep me active/busy, I love practical projects that keeps my mind busy and I like to think outside the box when resolving issues. Consequently I was thinking along the lines of a car project. One of the skills I don’t have is welding and didn’t want a rust bucket with sills full of rust.

I’d always liked the Delorean and now realise that I can get one at a fair price (as long as exchange rates don’t get silly in 3 years’ time when I propose getting one). I've read every book and Government report on the Delorean saga and the whole story is gripping when you see it from different party's perspectives.

I’ll make a trip to states, buy one from a warm state (as the chassis is mild steel) and visit family in St Louis/Chicago. Hell I may even get a MM guitar too!!

I know it’s performance is tame but I’m sold on the looks and if I get one at the right price it won’t be a drain on my wallet and will be an appreciating asset.
Any good model with manual gears will do me!!!

Should be a fun project. Stay away from warm coastal towns though. Salt air is known to pock the metal on those.

I had a Baja Bug for a while--until I broke the crankshaft and was faced with replacing the entire motor. Cars are fun. A lot like guitars with respect to the fascination and money one can sink into a new toy.

Happy hunting!

Bryan, just don't hijack any further with pics of your cat, Buttercup and you might not get a lash.

Oh, back on topic, I'm selling my American Deluxe Strat to fund a new MM guitar.

Great thread – I wonder what other topic we can segue into? ;) :D

How about "So long original topic, let's have fun" lol.

On a serious segue though, I recently started branding a decal company. Custom decals super cheap. This might be a cool thing if forum members want a cool MM decal made. They are willing to pass along a "homie hookup" for us forumites. Any interest?

Interesting you should say that. I have just built a guitar , made from a Brains Beer Drip tray similar to one of these but with the Brains Beer Logo embossed into the brass
Brains Brass effect drip tray | eBay
I contacted Brains Brewery who were very complimentary about it. I said that I wanted to create a water slide decal using their logo - I said that it was just for personal use. They were fine with that. So I got some water slide paper for a laser printer (£1 a sheet) and created one. It came out fine and I used nitro celly clear laquer to fix it.
I have an early 60's Watkins Rapier guitar that is missing the decal. Despite many attempts - contacted many people who are the legacy of Watkins and no joy. I have a poor scan of it and I have been in contact with Browndog to see about sharpening up the image I have, to create a decal so that I can refurb the guitar. It's all good fun eh?
