I don't care what color comes out. I think they're all fantastic and i would really like to pickup a SBMM axis. But I think a limited run with actual dimarzio axis pickups would be awesome. Kinda like the limited run with the jp sterlings with the crunch lab and liquid fire pickups.

I love the sterling line. You get way more guitar and quality than any other brand in the price range.

But one thing that really bothers me about them is the square dog ears for the pickup routing like they're routed for Seymour Duncan pickups. I know it's only aesthetics. But when I think of EBMM guitars, I think of dimarzio pickups. The pickups routing for the sterling line screams Seymour Duncan and I have a hard time gelling with that.

But I'm sure it's designed like that for a reason. So you don't get dishonest people upgrading a sterling axis and trying to pass it off as an actual EBMM.

That's just my opinion...but I could be wrong.

I am really glad you brought the dimarzio issue up and the pu routes as well.
I also have been wondering WHY the AX-40 does not include/use the axis dimarzio set? I know many including myself would pay the Xtra $$$ for a AX-40 to come this way stock.
I dont understand all this dimarzio cant sell the axis pu's:confused: will the world implode if they did? would there be a massive famine all over the nation if they did?
Seriously these dimarzio's are highly sought after and since sterling is in the business of making a profit like any other company should, why then does EBMM insist that these pu's are not to be sold to the public:rolleyes: I mean JEEZSUS I called music man parts and the ONLY way i could get a set is IF i owned a axis or EVH and then send the guitar to them to put in and they even keep the old pickups too? WTF?
Bad business practice right there EBMM! and i personally think that IF the product was not as outstanding as it is most would look right over the Brand for practices like that!
as far as the pu routes the ONLY thing i think that is a big plus for them to do this is the fact that one is NOT STUCK with just the DMZ brand, i really think that was a smart move on their part. I seriously doubt it was due to people trying to sell a ax40 for the axis? I mean there are many things that could have been done to differentiate the two guitars from one another.

The design for the pickup routs is probably due to where the pickups are sourced from, but I could be wrong of course.
maybe? but why couldn't EBMM source the pu's from a asian dimarzio clone maker? the pu's in the OLP MM1 were actually very good and to many close enough to the axis set to satisfy and they had round legs? i would have rather had those pu than the ones that do come with the ax40's. Not that the stock AX40 pu set is bad or anythig but the OLP pu set was much closer to the real deal tone wise.
It is a shame that such a outstanding guitar has these issues that should not have been? I mean i know for a fact the EBMM took a lot of guff about the MM1's spec's and build so i would have thought that , THAT alone would have been a learning experience to not repeat IF and when thy(EBMM) ever decied to put out a import version of the axis of their own instead of getting OLP do them. End of rant

Ok buddy ... take a deep breath ...

It's EBMMs policy not to sell proprietary parts on their own- this applies to necks, bodies, electronics, parts like the compensated nut and yes, the Axis p'ups which were custom designed by Dimarzio for EBMM. By slagging it off as a "bad business practice" you totally miss the reasons they do this.

SBMMs aren't made by EBMM, it's a partnership with another company (not unlike OLP, except the quality is on another level), and they use their own parts, one of the many reasons they can keep the prices as ridiculously low as they do.

Your prior posts here were guns blazing about the Axis pickups, so I'd suggest if you want to stick around that you relax a little and enjoy the place instead of taking pot shots.

Yes i admit it that i am way too over dramatic when it comes to these axis pu's and i apologize about that and could have worded my reply differently. so sorry my bad.
I just wish there would be some resolve to the axis pu availablity because i am definitely not the only one that would be doing cart wheels down the street IF these become available other than having to buy the whole guitar:)

Gotcha covered! I just bought such a guitar at my local Guitar Center yesterday, and it's not even 2013 yet! The official color is purple, but it's a very light purple and looks pinkish in certain light. It struck me as "different" when I first saw it, and it grew on me pretty fast. I really like it now and couldn't care less what anybody else thinks, you know? Besides, the only person I have to please with my guitar is me. :D

I'm at work right now but will post a pic later. I've been looking for a long time to find a guitar with a neck that feels good in my hand. The AX40 fit the bill. I have small hands and thin necks give me hand cramps. The moment I put my hand on the neck I knew it was right for me. Seems to me most guitars made these days have "shredder" necks - wide and thin. I know I'll never find one with the specs I want outside of custom made, but this is the closest I've found and will do nicely until I get rich enough to have one made.

Later!

Here you go! These were taken with a flash, but I guess they're about right. Seems that the brighter the light gets the more pink it looks, the darker the more purple. Love it!

Ya, it's a looker as far as I'm concerned. It's stock for the moment, but will be changed soon. I'll be putting a Graph Tech Ghost Floyd on it along with a pickup swap and a different knob. I've never cared for the plastic strat-style knobs. Besides, the pups and Floyd going on it are black and a black knob will complete the look. I'll likely replace the tuners with black ones too, if for nothing other than cosmetic reasons. So, if anybody needs a replacement Sterling trem, pups or tuners, let me know. ;)

Even a knob. :D

Wow, that does look sick. I know they are tweaking the color for more purple than pink in the next batch so it's almost like you got a cool limited color.

Looks beauty and I imagine the mods will be even nicer. Congrats.

I just saw one of these pinkish purple ax40's today at lunch. About freaked out as I didn't have any idea they were shipping these yet or that purple would be the next color. I put up another thread about it. Pretty nice color but I would hold out for a darker one if I was in the market.
