I was laying down some tracks from a fellow forumite (thanks curt!) over at the Fender Forum, and I though of trying out how the 20th would sound like recorded...

Damn! It's hotter than I expected. It's heavy, it's got balls (no pun intended), and it's one helluva screamer...

Listen for yourself:

Excuse the bad playing, but I thought this tone from the 20th was interesting enough to be worth a listen for thsoe who may be curious...:D

P.S. This was done with the maple one...:D

Whitestrat, thanks for this. Shows lots of different tones.

Is yours with or without a trem?

Thanks guys... Thanks for listening. Mine's a trem with maple fretboard, but I locked the trem down by screwing the springs in and using 5 springs. That thing doesn't budge now. I don't really use the trem a lot, but I always felt that having the trem cavity adds some "air" to the tone... Probably not provable, but it's stuck in my head...:D

Interesting. I do the same with trem guitars but they've all been SSS or HSS. It's always seemed a little strange to see a trem on the 20th cuz of the HH.

It would be cool to hear it A/B'd with a rosewood hardtail.

Yeah, but like Rob said in the other thread, the 20th really doesn't fit into the category that you'd think of for a HH guitar.

I play a lot of clean stuff (trying for Gilmour's tones) and the 20th sounds absolutely great when played clean. It's a bit like a single coil that's a bit rounder (if that makes any sense at all?)

Jimmy, I hear what you're saying.. I mean I "hear" it in the samples.

i hate feeling the trem move when i bend, so its 5 springs for me. the trem just being there adds some twang, but probably not for humbuckers in my experience, like on my Super Sports, they may as well be hardtail, all my HSS or SSS guitars need trems! Though i would like to have a mixture of both to compare. My Dargie Silo Special is SSS Hardtail, and sounds a lot different to my LE 06 Silo Special with trem. BUT, it seems from gigging them heaps that at higher volumes the hardtail may sound better, to my ears, much more meatier, and more sustain too. I remember the day i first gigged my pinkburst hardtail SSS AL, i almost peed myself on stage! TONE baby! Cant wait to get a BFR AL pinkburst hardtail!

I thought this thread was about 20th's?

:D

I should really try a hardtail, but I think it's a psychological thing with me. I rarely use them, but I can bet that if I was playing without one, then I'd really want it!!

I don't get it... why would it be odd to see a trem on a HH guitar?

Nothing at all wrong with it, just not something I usually associate together, nor have I ever owned one.

Ah... ok... Cos when I think of all the Ibanez and ESPs and other brands out there with HH guitars and trems, it seems funny you'd think this way. heh... Anyways, I like the trem though I never use it...:D

Anyways, here's ANOTHER track I put together a couple of nights ago... This baby really can scream!!! (A bit more than my JP... I wonder why... heheh... Maybe I SHOULD buy a BFR... :p)

In contrast, here's the one I did with a JP6. Note how subdued it actually sounds compared to the 20th?
