Texas Finally!
That is not good, and yes Travis is a great player and cool guy, maybe he will pop on the forum and tell us about the untimely accident

When I looked at the pics of TL's shattered EB JP it felt so bad. It's sad to face this situation I'm sure. I'm flying soon with my JP13 and Ibanez and there's no way I'm checkin' them in.

I really hope TL gets a full compemsation for such wrecklessness!

I definitely don't understand how they have some logic that its too valuable an item… who puts fragile on a worthless item in an effort to get people to take notice and treat it with care? Who needs a worthless item replaced by the big multi billion dollar company? It wouldn't hurt them to take care of it and it would get them musician loyalty for years if they'd be quick to take action. I don't understand the people who make these decisions.

NEVER CHECK YOUR GUITAR - and they can't make you! :)

Relevant info from: You CAN Carry On Your Guitar. It

Note that I've bolded and underlined some relevant parts - and that a guitar counts as a "small instrument"

In 2012, President Obama signed into law the ‘‘FAA Modernization and Reform Act of 2012,’’ which, along with provisions for enhancing runway safety and easing restrictions on transporting lithium batteries, contains the following text:
SEC. 403. MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS.
(a) IN GENERAL—Subchapter I of chapter 417 is amended by adding at the end the following:
‘‘§ 41724. Musical instruments
‘‘(a) IN GENERAL—
‘‘(1) SMALL INSTRUMENTS AS CARRY-ON BAGGAGE.—An air carrier providing air transportation shall permit a passenger to carry a violin, guitar, or other musical instrument in the aircraft cabin, without charging the passenger a fee in addition to any standard fee that carrier may require for comparable carry-on baggage, if—
‘‘(A) the instrument can be stowed safely in a suitable baggage compartment in the aircraft cabin or under a passenger seat, in accordance with the requirements for carriage of carry-on baggage or cargo established by the Administrator; and
‘‘(B) there is space for such stowage at the time the passenger boards the aircraft.
For instruments too large to fit in an overhead or under your seat, you can bring them aboard but you do have to buy another ticket

And did you notice that the time to determine whether there’s sufficient space for your guitar is at the time you board the aircraft??!?!?! Not that "the plane will be full once everyone gets on, so you have to check it", and they can't decided after it's onboard that your guitar takes up too much room and they’ll have to gate check it fit more suitcases in.

I regularly take an acoustic with me on vacation - I've printed out the text of the law and carry it inside my guitar case and I've always boarded with my guitar and stowed it overhead.

Hope that helps others!

If there is no room when you board it goes in the hold (with the baby buggies) or it stays behind. In other words, if you board too late you are SOL. And if you have to buy a seat you obviously cannot do that if the aircraft is full, or may not be possible at time of boarding but prior to check in. No guitar is acceptable under seats (though it may fit between the last row of seats and the bulkhead/toilet wall - some 737s OK, A320s no). And some smaller aircraft do not have overhead lockers big enough to accommodate a guitar, so check before you fly, especially on small regional flights.

That's why I pay the $10 or $20 extra for "early boarding", then my baby rides with me and not the baby buggies! :)

yeah the case was totally fine which means that someone dropped or threw it from a very high place....it was no accident. United sucks

I guess it's a good time for Travis to have HIS OWN signature model, right BIG POPPA? He's an amazing player and so humble!
