I know, a dumb question, but I've never seen it in real life and from the web I thought it was just another variation on black. However, on Mogee's Bongo-head shot it looks quite blue - and I rather liked it.

Is that what it really looks like? Or is it a photographic quirk?

If it does, there may be a Bongo 6 HH heading my way sooner than I thought...

It's a very clever colour, kinda like a dark gun metal gray with subtle metallic sparkle to it, however it has the ability of showing different colour tonalities depending on the light shown on it, infact it can go from a dark metallic gray-black, to a BMW-like blue, have a look at these 2 pics to get an idea of what I am waffling about.

Hence the name Sapphire Black. :D Yes, there is a blueish hue to SB. It's pretty freak'n sweet, I must say. Get the Bongo 6!

I'm dithering - I like Cabernet Pearl, but also Electric Blue, and Blue Pearl, and Candy Red, and now Sapphire Black....

This sapphire black thing is slowly getting to me. I'm reconsidering the B6 choice. I particularly like the combination with the black ice p/g which Mogee had on his bass (no offense to those with a different choice ;) ).

Anyone have a pic of a Bongo 6 HH Sapphire Black I can drool over?

SB is, to my eye, a very, very dark charcoal gray with teeny-tiny sparkles in it, like many of the MM finishes. Both my Desert Gold and Candy Red basses have this sort-of sparkly trait, but they're not true sparkles. They're smaller.

It never really struck me as bluish, but I can see how it might come across that way.

BTW, Bassmonkee sold me a cream pearl pickguard for my candy red Bongo and the combo is stunningly beautiful.

I know, I know, it doesn't exist without pictures. I'll get some, I promise.

I liked the moonstone pickguard a lot, but I changed it to white ice because I wanted it to have a more defined contrast between the pickguard and the body. See what you think

+1 on the contrast thing.

I had a black pickguard on my red bass and I really like the look, but when I saw video of the band playing the instrument was fairly invisible. So it's back to a light pickguard for me.

I guess it depends a bit on personal style and the kind of music. A stealth bass for metal just seems like a perfect match, even if the bass can't be seen on stage.

Ah, but even so I wouldn't be able to have it *right* now 'cos it's arrival in Eng-guh-lund has not yet been scheduled...

This link shows you the colour combinatons you can choose for a Bongo 6

Bongo 6 | Basses | Instruments

Yup - spent hours there ;)

You can have single H, HH or HS but the only thing you can't get on a 6 is the piezo, and there are no lefties available either.

Phew, thank goodness, I think I'd struggle with a lefty

Seriously though I notice there's no black ice p/g option - what happened to that?

I think I'm down to either Sapphire Black, Cabby Pearl or Electric Blue and I'll start the collection off with an HH, knowing I can always fill the rest in later :D
